On the evening of Sunday, June 21, Merrick Fire Department along with mutual aid companies responded to reports of a house fire. Empire Hose Company 3 Engine 642 was first due. On arrival, crews were met with a smoke condition in the house. The ignition point was located and isolated to a burning electrical power strip and the house was then ventilated.

At approximately 1:00 AM on Wednesday, June 17, members of Empire Hose Company 3 responded to an automatic fire alarm at a local food establishment. Crews were on scene within 90 seconds of dispatch and encountered an odor of smoke upon arrival. After gaining entry, firefighters discovered a smoke condition inside the building. The source was determined to be food left unattended on a stove. Fortunately, there was no fire extension beyond the cooking vessel. The offending bowl of burnt rice was promptly removed, and the building was ventilated before units returned to service.

Remember: Never leave cooking unattended. A few moments of distraction can quickly lead to an emergency. If a fire occurs, get out, stay out, and call 911.

On the morning of Monday, June 15, the Merrick Fire Department responded to reports of a Motor Vehicle Accident. On arrival, crews found three vehicles involved with multiple aided. Empire Hose Company 3 Ambulance 6413 transported one of the injured to hospital. Others were transported by Nassau County Police Department ambulance. All units were under the command of Asst. Chief Miner.

🚨 Responding to an automatic fire alarm at a local restaurant
🚒 Responding to a vehicle that struck a utility pole with occupants reported trapped
🚑 Assisting an injured community member requiring medical attention

These calls happen in our community every day. They don’t happen somewhere else—they happen right here in Merrick.

And when they do, it’s your neighbors, friends, family members, and coworkers who answer the call.

A busy overnight for Empire Hose Company No. 3.

Between approximately midnight and 4:00 AM, the company responded to three separate incidents, including a report of an odor of smoke in a dwelling, a detached garage fire, and a motor vehicle accident in which it was reported that one of the involved parties fled the scene.

All incidents were handled under the command of Chief Montana. We thank our members for their dedication and professionalism throughout the night as they continue to serve and protect our community.

No matter the hour, the members of Empire Hose Company No. 3 stand ready to answer the call. Proudly serving Merrick, one alarm at a time.

On Sunday, May 31, the Merrick Fire Department responded to reports of an MVA on the Meadowbrook State Parkway. On arrival, crews found three vehicles involved. Fire department and county EMTs attended to five people on scene. It was reported that an additional individual fled the scene.
