Now through September 28, the Merrick Library is proud to exhibit debut Long Island photographer Edward Malecki’s colorful and impressive photographs from around the world.

From vibrant city scenes to striking landscapes, Malecki’s photographs offer a glimpse into the places he has experienced through his lens.

Help us protect the library as a safe, welcoming space for everyone.

Security and staff escorted the teens out of the library and police were called. Library staff recognized most of the teens as local Merrick students likely in seventh or eighth grade.

Dear Merrick Parents,

Today at the library a group of eight 13-year-olds stormed into the Children's Room screaming obscenities and slurs in front of young children. They were removed in a professional manner by our staff and security, and police were informed. We do know the identity of some of the kids involved.

It has become more common for groups of kids riding bikes to run into the library and cause a scene, but as seen today, the groups are growing larger and more aggressive. As the staff of a public facility we are used to dealing with disturbances, but the young children who are here to enjoy the library should not have to experience screaming, obscenity, and the fear of not understanding what's happening.

The kids involved are local. If you know them, or they are your kids, please intervene. The acting-out crosses a line when young children are the targets. We hope that our community's parents can step in and prevent it from happening again.

We’re honoring the life, music, stories, and spirit of Dolly Parton at the Merrick Library. Browse her books, take home her vinyl with a Victrola, sing along at home with a karaoke machine from our Library of Things, try our featured Dolly’s 9-5 Cold Brew with strawberry foam, and check out our Dolly display table in the lobby. Then, on October 6, join Keith Crocker in our Community Room for a special lecture celebrating Dolly’s extraordinary life and legacy as a true American icon.
