Today we celebrate Flag Day and the enduring symbol of our nation. For nearly 250 years, the Stars and Stripes have represented freedom, sacrifice, unity, and opportunity.

As we honor our flag, let us also honor the generations of Americans who have served, sacrificed, and worked to move our country forward.

We hope you'll enjoy your Sunday!

Meridian is a city with strong roots, built by generations of people who cared deeply about this community. Today, that same spirit continues to move us forward. New opportunities, renewed energy, and a growing sense of momentum can be felt across our city.

Today, City of Meridian crews worked together to clean up an illegal dumping site in the 1700 block of 17th Avenue.

Community Development Director Terrell Thompson expressed his appreciation to the residents who reported the issue and helped bring attention to the problem.

"We're grateful to the citizens who take the time to report illegal dumping in their neighborhoods," said Thompson. "Their involvement helps us respond more quickly and effectively. Keeping Meridian clean is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate their partnership."

Thompson also thanked Public Works Director David Hodge and the Public Works team for their assistance in the cleanup effort.

Working together, we continue to keep Meridian clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

Illegal dumping is unacceptable. It damages neighborhoods, lowers property values, creates safety concerns, and drains resources that could be used elsewhere in our community.

"Let me be clear: illegal dumping will not be tolerated," said Community Development Director Terrell Thompson. "The overwhelming majority of our residents take pride in their neighborhoods, and they should not have to deal with the actions of those who choose to dump waste illegally. We continue working with residents and city departments to identify problem areas, clean them up, and hold violators accountable."
