This Week's Water Safety Tip 💧

Learn CPR

Immediate CPR can double or even triple someone’s chance of surviving cardiac arrest. But sadly, less than half of all people who need this lifesaving intervention receive CPR from bystanders before professional help arrives.

Knowing CPR can make the difference between panic and action in a water emergency. Whether you’re at the pool, lake, or beach, strong swimmers still face risks — and quick CPR can save a life before first responders arrive. This summer, add CPR training to your water safety checklist. 💙🌊

School’s out, summer is here, and neighborhoods are about to be filled with kids riding bikes, scooters, and skateboards. Before the adventures begin, make safety part of the routine — start by wearing a helmet every ride, every time 🚴‍♀️

Parents, caregivers, and older siblings: lead by example. When children see the adults around them wearing helmets and practicing safe riding habits, they’re far more likely to do the same. A properly fitted helmet can make all the difference in preventing serious injuries.

Slow down in neighborhoods, stay alert for children at play, and help make this a safe and fun summer for everyone.

Earlier today, Meridian Fire crews responded to a residential structure fire near E. 2nd Street and Williams Street. Firefighters arrived to find two vehicles on fire with flames spreading to nearby trees, a shed, and the home. Crews quickly contained the fire and prevented further spread to surrounding properties.

Two cats were safely rescued and reunited with their family, and there were no reported injuries.

Thank you to our partner agencies for their assistance on scene and coverage during the incident.

This Week's Water Safety Tip 💧

Before you dive in, know what’s below the surface.

Always enter unknown water feet first — never dive into shallow, murky, or unfamiliar water. Hidden rocks, debris, sudden drop-offs, or shallow depths can lead to serious injuries in seconds.

Take a moment to check the water, play it safe, and help protect yourself and others this summer.

🚦Red lights apply to everyone — and ignoring them puts lives at risk, including yours and the first responders who show up after the crash.

Our partners at the Meridian Police Department recently conducted red light enforcement at Meridian and Overland and issued several citations for violations.

Please slow down, stay alert, and stop on red. A few seconds of patience can prevent a serious collision and keep our community safer.

🚦How we feel when you run a red light!

Officers spent a few hours conducting red light enforcement at Meridian and Overland, where they made several traffic stops resulting in citations for red light violations alone.

Red lights aren’t suggestions. A few extra seconds of waiting could prevent a serious crash. Slow down, stay alert, and stop on red.

Congratulations to the graduates of this year’s Public Safety Academy! 🎓🚒👮

Over the past 9 weeks, these community members got an inside look at the work of the Meridian Fire Department and Meridian Police Department through hands-on training, live demonstrations, presentations, and behind-the-scenes experiences. From learning emergency response tactics to exploring specialized equipment and operations, participants gained a deeper understanding of the dedication and teamwork it takes to serve our community every day.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s academy and to the crews and staff who helped make it such a success. We’re proud to build stronger connections with the community we serve!

Interested in joining next year’s class? Keep an eye out for applications opening in March 2027!

This Week's Water Safety Tip 💧

When kids are in or near water, active supervision is critical—that means eyes on, within arm’s reach, and no distractions 👀
