ATTENTION PARENTS

We’re about to let you in on a little Christmas Eve secret that may greatly improve bedtime cooperation.

Our outstanding dispatchers at the Mercer County Emergency Services Center (911) will once again be broadcasting the annual Santa sighting on Christmas Eve. Estimated airtime is 2100 hours (9:00 PM), radio traffic permitting.

That means you can tell the kids—very officially—that Santa has been spotted and it’s time to get to bed so he can do his thing.

Be sure to listen on your scanner or on Mercer County Fire/EMS Broadcast

It’s the perfect way to wrap up the night, confirm Santa is on schedule, and usher the kids to bed without negotiations.

Is your vehicle ready for winter driving? Make sure it can handle the unexpected conditions winter can bring.

Before snow stats to fall, have a mechanic check your brakes, battery, hoses and belts and consider these other tips to get your vehicle ready for winter:
• Check that your fluid levels are full.
• Make sure your wipers don't streak. You may want to consider installing winter wiper blades.
• Ensure your heater and defroster are working properly.
• Check that your vehicle's radio is working properly so you can receive weather and traffic reports.
• Make sure all lights are working.
• Check to be sure tires are properly inflated and have sufficient tread depth.
• If you live in an area prone to heavy snow, you may want to use dedicated snow tires on your vehicle or carry a set of tire chains. At a minimum, your all-weather tires should be mud and snow rated.
• In the case of a problem, contact a mechanic immediately.

If you reach an intersection where a school bus is loading or unloading students, all traffic must stop – even when the intersection is not marked with a stop sign.
