By properly disposing of unused and expired medications we protect our kids, neighbors, and the environment. The Mercer Island Police Department is coordinating with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to offer a free, anonymous in-person National Med Take Back Day on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the loading dock on the west side of the Mercer Island City Hall (9611 SE 36th Street).

We all can make a difference in preventing prescription misuse. If you know someone struggling with prescription misuse call or text the Washington Recovery Line at 1.866.789.1511, or call MIYFS Intake line at 206.275.7657.

The City of Mercer Island has proclaimed today, 9/23, as "MI NIGH DAY", calling upon all Mercer Island residents to join efforts of organizations across the community to eliminate food insecurity by supporting the YFS Food Pantry program with a donation of $23 on 9/23.

NIGH stands for No Islander Goes Hungry and is a collaborative fundraising effort of the MIYFS Foundation, Rotary Club of Mercer Island Foundation, Mercer Island Farmers Market, Mercer Island Community Fund - MICF and Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce.

The MIYFS Healthy Youth Initiative has opened registration for Guiding Good Choices, a new program for parents of Mercer Island 6th graders. Guiding Good Choices is an evidence-based program from the University of Washington that provides parents with skills and strategies for parenting during the pr***en and teen years. The 5-week online program will be offered Mondays, April 25 - May 23, 2022 from 6:30-8:30 pm on Zoom. Thank you to everyone that joined the MIYFS Foundation this morning for the 20th Annual Virtual Fundraising Breakfast. Now it is time to Shop & Dine Local - the Mercer Island businesses below will be donating a portion of today's proceeds to the Foundation. MIYFS is grateful to all the individuals, groups and businesses that support human services on Mercer Island.

Mercer Island students, parents, community members and leaders are invited to join us for the (virtual) Mercer Island Healthy Youth Forum on Monday, November 8 from 6:30-8:30pm.

Learn about current youth trends from Keynote Speaker Dr. Jason Kilmer, Assoc. Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington, who will share key findings from the WA State COVID-19 Student Survey. Community members will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue and identify community priorities for youth well-being.
