Sand and sandbags will be available for City of Mercedes residents today Monday, June 15, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM at the KC Hall Parking Lot area.

Residents are asked to bring their own shovels. Assistance will be available for elderly residents and residents with disabilities.

Available while supplies last.

🚨 Weather Alert: Heavy Rain & Flash Flooding Possible

The National Weather Service is urging residents across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley to stay weather-aware today through Tuesday afternoon.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms may bring 3 to 5 inches of rain per hour, which could lead to widespread flash flooding, especially in areas where storms sit for long periods of time.

Residents are encouraged to:

🌧️ Monitor official weather updates
🚗 Avoid unnecessary travel when possible
⚠️ Never drive through flooded roads
📻 Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, NWS Brownsville/RGV, and local emergency updates
