This Labor Day, we’re recognizing the hardworking people behind the scenes who help keep our communities clean, safe and sustainable.

From landfill operators and equipment crews to scale house staff, maintenance teams and everyone who helps manage the waste we generate—your work matters every day.

Hey Trash Talker! We’re looking for residents who want to improve our local waste management and recycling services.

The Integrated Waste Management Local Task Force is made up of local individuals who want to help guide our recycling, outreach, and operational work at the landfill. The Task Force will begin meeting later this year and will work to make recommendations to the RWA staff and Governing Board about disposal facilities, recycling initiatives, community education efforts, and more!

There are currently several vacancies on the Task Force as follows:
♻️At-large resident of Merced County (can live in any unincorporated area of the county)
♻️At-large City resident (can live in any of the following cities: Atwater, Dos Palos, Gustine, Livingston, Los Banos, Merced)
♻️Environmental representative

Did you know you can dispose of several types of items FOR FREE at the landfill!? Every Friday we will highlight an item that Merced County residents can dispose of at either the Highway 59 or Billy Wright Landfill FOR FREE!

This Week's Item: USED COOKING OIL

I bet you knew that you can't pour cooking oil down the drain but did you know that we accept cooking oil for free at the landfill? That's right! Small amounts of cooking oil should be cooled and placed in your green bin. But large amounts - up to 5 gallons - can be taken to the Highway 59 landfill for free disposal!

So, the next time you fire up the deep fryer, or if your large collection bucket gets full remember that you can bring it to us - for FREE.

This Week's Item: CLOTHING AND TEXTILES!

Have clothes or textiles you no longer need? Recycle them using our updated recycling programs!

RWA has partnered with Eco World and Just Porch It to offer Merced County residents free clothing and textiles in our local community. Those items that cannot be reused are recycled and kept out of our local landfills.

To recycle your clothes and textiles, look for the Eco World collection bins in your community or utilize the pick-up service provided by Just Porch It!

The public is welcome to join the meetings of the Technical Review Board and Governing Board this month either in person or by Zoom.

The TRB will meet on Wednesday, July 8th at noon and the Governing Board will meet on Thursday, July 16th at 3pm.
