HAPPY JUNE!

The weather has been perfect, it feels like Summer is nearly upon us, and we wanted to highlight some newly installed park amenities near our main beach entrance at parking lot 12!

- Our Beach Mats are in!! Our ADA-compliant Mobi-Mats allow for easier access to the shoreline! We run them as close as we can get them to the Lake, and then run them a bit east-to-west parallel to the shore.

- Check out our new yellow Adirondack Chairs! These chairs generously come to our Beach from Tour Lake County OH, and are perfect for a relaxing rest in the sun!

- We installed 3 more volleyball courts, which brings our total now to 4! A great team effort alongside Friends of Headlands Beach State Park.

- Attached to our BEACH RULES sign, we affixed additional water safety signage regarding dangerous rip currents, as well as a rescue throw bag and information on how to use it. Scannable QR codes will take you to a website that lists active Lake Erie shoreline water safety alerts. Please be safe out on the water!

- All of our swim buoys are also in. Please be mindful of swimming within the swim zone ONLY. If you need a life jacket, there are mixed sizes available for loan next to restroom 1. Please return them when you are done!

Thank you, and here's to a GREAT Summer at the Beach!

Last week, Headlands Beach State Park staff partnered with our amazing Friends of Headlands Beach State Park to host a community invasive species removal event over at our new wetland at the west end of the park!

A few years ago, the constantly flooding parking lots at the west end of the park were removed and the land was given back to nature. ODNR worked with many involved partners to restore a beautiful coastal wetland to great success.

Unfortunately, the threat of invasive species encroachment always exists, and we found that Autumn Olive and White Poplar were rapidly spreading throughout the wetland this past year. These plants have poor ecological value and out-compete valuable native species. We spent the afternoon doing targeted removal of as much as we could handle.

And we had such a great result! Management of the wetland is ongoing, and invasive species removal is a big part of that!

Thanks to everyone who was involved!

We are excited to announce the addition of a Little Free Library to Headlands Beach!

BIG thanks to Rich and his fantastic carpentry skills for building this from scratch, by hand! And to Eve for her assistance with the installation. The library is located by our main beach entrance, and will soon be part of the "Little Free Library" network.

Please stop by and check it out! Take a book and share a book!

ANNOUNCEMENT!

We are HIRING!

We are looking to hire a few part-time, seasonal, park maintenance positions at both Headlands Beach and Geneva State Park!

These positions would ideally start work next month and work the whole summer season, ending sometime in late October/early November. There is a specific amount of budgeted hours for each position, which would be discussed during the interview process. Pay range is from $14-19.50/hour depending on skills and experience.

We need people with prior experience in landscaping and forestry work, and with the trades such as carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. Experience operating tractors, truck and trailer, 4x4 utility vehicles, zero-turn lawnmowers, and gas-powered equipment such as chainsaws and weed-whackers is preferred. There will be some on-the-job training, but we require a certain level of experience to start.

Please direct message this account if interested, or call the Park Office at 440-466-8400!

HELLO EVERYONE!

This is new, official, ODNR-ran page for Headlands Beach State Park!

Last summer Headlands Beach came under new management, and the new Park Manager is excited to bring this new page to everyone to share all things Headlands Beach! A lot of exciting changes have happened, and are yet to come!

- Our restrooms are under renovation, and will be finished by spring. We will have (4) total restrooms, all freshly renovated! They will be re-numbered 1 through 4, with Restroom 1 being the westernmost building and restroom 4 being the easternmost building.

- We recently demolished the old concession building at the main entrance to the beach. The building has been abandoned and in poor shape for many years. In its place, we plan on building a patio/plaza area to sit, get some shade, and eat!

- We continue to build relationships with local food truck vendors, so expect more Food Trucks at the beach this summer! We will post a schedule once we get one established. Sandwiches, pizzas, coffee, bagels, tacos and more!

- We are already hard at work planning the 2026 Birding Festival! This will be our third annual festival and it continues to grow in size and scope each year! Stay tuned for more information on this!

- We look forward to the return of the Lakeside Mystic flea market festival and the sand sculptures! Last year saw record-setting attendance (and temperatures... 100*F+!).

- Last summer we finished our new entrance sign and walkway! It came out great! Have any pictures to share??

- We will start the summer 2026 season with a brand-new Life Jacket Loaner station! Our full-time park maintenance professional Rich built it from scratch! We want everyone to stay safe out on the water, so please take a life jacket with you when you go out, and return it when you are done!

- We will be improving water safety signage throughout the park. Stay tuned for updates on this.

- We have a new H2Ohio Wetlands sign over at our newly constructed wetland near the western end of the paved trial. Check it out!

- The Eagle Scouts built a new nature trail last summer! It continues to grow, and we will be installing interpretive signage along the trail this spring. The trail is located at the children's playground, and connects north to the paved walking/bike trial. Check it out as it continues to develop!

There is more to share, but at the risk of this post being way to long, I'll cap it off here!

Here's to a GREAT 2026 season!
