The Mentor on the Lake Fire Department conducts fire suppression, rescue, hazmat operations, fire investigation, fire prevention/education and EMS operations. We are located approximately 35 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio along the shores of Lake Erie. We protect approximately 7,500 people in a small bedroom community about 1.6 square miles. The Mentor on the Lake fire station is located right next to City Hall. The station is staffed around the clock with at least 1 Paramedic and 2 EMT Basics that also hold their state of Ohio Firefighter Certification .

Today, we pause to solemnly remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the 2,977 innocent souls who perished, and the extraordinary sacrifice of the 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and emergency personnel who rushed into danger when others were running out. Their courage, selflessness, and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

This year, our remembrance carries a special connection. Back in June, we were honored by a visit from John Martin, a retired firefighter with 28 years of service from San Bernardino County in Southern California. As part of his cross-country journey riding his bike in remembrance of those who perished on 9/11, John stopped at the Mentor-on-the-Lake Fire Department and bestowed upon our department a remembrance dog tag of Lt. Kevin W. Donnelly, who was assigned to FDNY Ladder 3. Since then, Lt. Donnelly's tag has been riding proudly with our crews in our new engine.

Today, and every day, we reaffirm our commitment to never forget, to honor their legacy by serving our community with courage and dedication, and to support the families and brothers and sisters in uniform who carry the weight of that day.

Please take a moment today to remember the fallen, their families, and the heroes of that fateful day. 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation and the freedoms we are fortunate to enjoy. As you gather with family and friends, we want to remind our community to stay safe:
• Leave fireworks to professionals
• Keep grills at least 10 feet from structures
• Stay hydrated and look out for your neighbors
