Any content posted or submitted for posting is subject to public disclosure. As cities go, Mentor-on-the Lake is a young community. We only need to reach back in time only to the 1920's to find that it was still a township with Mentor. As its population grew, 33 voters petitioned the trustees to create its own village government, which began on October 22, 1924. Census registered Mentor-on-the-Lake above 5,000 residents, and so it was incorporated as a city on February 12, 1971

The city is approximately 1.6 square miles in area with 98% of the land currently developed. It is a small bedroom community with amenities often reserved for cities much larger. Located close to major highways and Interstate90, it's an easy commute to down town Cleveland. The police department is staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The police department oversees the communications center which dispatches for police and fire. The city also maintains a small jail facility. Mission Statement

The men and women of the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of retired Sergeant Glenn Bailey, Sr.

Glenn dedicated his life to service—both to his country as a member of the United States Air Force and to the communities he so proudly protected throughout his law enforcement career. From his early days with the Honolulu Police Department to his many years serving agencies here in Lake County, Glenn’s commitment to helping others never wavered.

From 1980 to 2009, Glenn faithfully served the residents of Mentor-on-the-Lake, retiring as a Sergeant after 35 years in law enforcement. His leadership, experience, and steady presence left a lasting impact on our department and the community he cared so deeply about.

Beyond the badge, Glenn was a devoted family man who cherished time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his stories, his sense of humor, and the genuine kindness he showed to those around him.

We are grateful for his years of service and honored to have called him one of our own.

Rest easy, Sergeant Bailey. Your watch has ended.

A visitation will be held at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street, Mentor, Ohio 44060, on Sunday, April 12 from 1 to 5 pm. A funeral service will begin at 10 am on Monday, April 13, at the funeral home, then immediately following, a processional and internment at Crown Hill Cemetery, 8592 Darrow Rd, Twinsburg, OH 44087.
