There are 17 villages/cities and 22 townships located within the county. 🔎 HELP LOCATE A MISSING BACKPACK

The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating a purple and gray Osprey backpack that fell from a vehicle on Sunday, September 6, 2026. This backpack contains items that are very important to the owner.

The vehicle left the Town of Grant around 11:40 a.m. and traveled:

-South on County Highway M
-Southwest on State Highway 40 through Colfax
-West on State Highway 29 and Highway 12/29
-South on 610th Street
-West on 510th Avenue toward the Menomonie Shooting Range

The response to our recent missing person search showed the true meaning of service, teamwork, and community.

Dozens of agencies, specialized search teams, volunteers, students, neighbors, and community members answered the call. They gave their time, shared their skills, searched difficult terrain, provided equipment and supplies, and supported one another through long hours. Many traveled considerable distances to help someone they had never met.

A search of this size takes an incredible amount of coordination, patience, physical effort, and heart. Every person had a role. Every set of eyes helped. Every mile walked, area searched, meal delivered, and piece of information shared contributed to the effort.

Seeing so many people work together toward a common goal was a meaningful reminder of the strength of our communities.

⚠️ UPDATE: WENDY HAS BEEN FOUND SAFE

We are very happy to share that Wendy has been found safe.

We cannot thank our community enough for the incredible amount of support and assistance over the past couple of days. From sharing our posts and checking cameras, properties, and outbuildings, to those who came out and helped search - the response was beyond what we could have asked for.

We are also incredibly grateful for the assistance of our local agencies, first responders, volunteers, and other resources who stepped up without hesitation.

The outpouring of support was a powerful reminder of the kind of community we have here in Dunn County. When someone needed help, people showed up.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring Wendy home safely.

Update: Wendy has been found safe. Thank you to the community for all of the assistance over the past couple of days. The outpouring of help has been more than we expected and it reminds us how great our community and other local resource are.

Update: Wendy was seen on a trail camera on today's date (9/4/26) around 12:30 PM near the address of E7390 1180TH AV. Wheeler, WI. If you live in the area, please check buildings on your property and any trail cameras. An updated photo showing the clothing she is wearing is the in the comments.

⚠️ MISSING PERSON – PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED ⚠️

The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Wendy Champion.

Wendy was last seen at approximately 6:30 a.m. today in the area of N11198 670th Street, Wheeler, Wisconsin.

If you live in or around this area, we are asking you to please:

• Check security cameras, doorbell cameras, trail cameras, or other video footage for anything that may help determine Wendy’s direction of travel or whereabouts.

• Check your property and outbuildings, including sheds, barns, garages, or other areas where someone could potentially seek shelter.

• Be alert while traveling through the area and report anything that may assist in locating Wendy.

If you have any information regarding Wendy’s whereabouts or believe you may have captured her on camera, please contact the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office at 715-232-1348.

We are not asking for any assistance in searching at this time.

🎉🐾 HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY, ROOKIE! 🐾🎉

Today we’re celebrating 7 years of Rookie — our Emotional Support K9, DARE classroom celebrity, county-wide office visitor, and part-time workplace menace. 😂

Over the years, Rookie has worked hard to perfect his many talents:

🐾 Visiting classrooms for DARE and immediately becoming more popular than the deputy teaching it.

🍕 Stealing unattended food off desks. Rookie firmly believes anything left within reach becomes department property.

🚨 Setting off squad car sirens and pretending he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

🏢 Making his rounds to offices throughout Dunn County, because emotional support cannot be confined to one building… and someone might have snacks.

❤️ Providing comfort, companionship and plenty of laughs to the people who need him.

At 7 years old, Rookie remains committed to serving the community — mostly by accepting pets, stealing lunches and creating minor disturbances wherever he goes.

Happy Birthday, Rookie! 🎂🐶

May your day be filled with treats, belly rubs and absolutely zero disciplinary action for food theft.

Farm equipment is a common sight on Dunn County roads, especially during planting and harvest seasons. The driver in this squad camera video chose to pass a tractor in a no-passing zone and into the path of an oncoming squad car.

Wisconsin law does not allow drivers to pass farm equipment in a marked no-passing zone. A slow-moving vehicle emblem is a warning that the equipment travels at 25 mph or less. It is not an invitation to pass wherever you choose.

When you approach farm equipment:

Slow down early and leave plenty of space.
Wait for a legal passing zone with a clear view of oncoming traffic.
Do not pass near hills, curves, intersections, railroad crossings or field entrances.
Watch for turn signals, hand signals and equipment that may swing wide.
Never assume the operator sees you.
Return to your lane only after you have fully cleared the equipment.

🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY 🚌

As school buses return to our roads, so do early mornings, busy schedules, and drivers trying to get where they need to go. But when a school bus stops, nothing is more important than the child getting on or off.

🟡 Flashing yellow lights mean the bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and get ready to stop.

🔴 Flashing red lights mean STOP. Drivers approaching from either direction must stop at least 20 feet away and remain stopped until the red lights turn off or the bus begins moving.

The only exception is traffic traveling in the opposite direction on a highway divided by a median or other physical barrier. A painted centerline or turn lane does not count.

Please remember that children can be excited, distracted, or difficult to see. They may cross the road unexpectedly or drop something near the bus. Your patience could prevent a tragedy.

Bus drivers can report vehicles that illegally pass them. Wisconsin law may also hold the registered owner responsible, even if someone else was driving.

No appointment, deadline, or destination is worth risking a child’s life.

Slow down. Put the phone away. Watch for children. Stop for the red lights.

⚠️ TRAFFIC REMINDER: STH 25 & CTH BB ⚠️

We’ve received complaints about drivers using the right-turn-only lane on STH 25 near CTH BB to pass other vehicles.

As the photos show, the lane is marked with pavement arrows and signs indicating that the right lane MUST turn right. It is not a passing lane.

🚗 If you enter the right-turn-only lane, you need to turn right. Using the lane to pass traffic and then merging back into the through lane creates an unnecessary risk for everyone in the area.

This section of STH 25 has historically been an area of concern for serious injury crashes due to violations and because of this, law enforcement will be spending additional time monitoring the intersection.

Please pay attention to the signs, follow the lane markings, and save the passing for somewhere it’s actually legal. A few seconds isn’t worth causing a crash.

Recently individuals have been contacted regarding a family member that had just been booked into the Dunn County Jail. The caller identifies themselves as a Dunn County Correctional Officer or a Deputy and request funds for either bond or electronic monitoring to have the family member released. They will direct the family to make a Venmo or some other type of electronic payment through a third-party app. This is a SCAM. Dunn County Jail will never contact anyone directly for bond or payment. The incarcerated individual will be allowed calls for this purpose but still remain wary of whether someone is posing as them if contacted. The scammers are mining information from outside websites to obtain incarcerated individuals' information. If you have any doubt, please call the Dunn County Jail to confirm the validity of any requests of this type.
