German-American Center of Wisconsin While preserving, developing and advancing that which can never be lost…our unique and priceless heritage.

Building a Better, More Prosperous Future for all Wisconsin’s Citizens through Focused, Intelligent Economic Development while Preserving and Advancing the Priceless…our Rich and Extraordinary Heritage. In the 19th century, Germans arrived by the thousands to find a wilderness and helped to create one of the greatest, most compassionate and most prosperous States in the Republic

As we move into

the second decade of the 21st century, the Republic and our State are experiencing some ‘wilderness times.’ The Germans are still here to help with energy, self-sacrifice and dedication to the wider community and to our State. The German-American Center of Wisconsin at the Schwabenhof provides intelligent, focused transatlantic economic development for Waukesha County and its contiguous areas with immediate, significant job creation, economic expansion and substantial, provable peripheral commercial benefit. The Center creates a ‘destination’ for the ‘State that is Open for Business’ with a logical, bilingual bridge to the ‘engine’ that is keeping Europe afloat in these difficult times. This investment in the future of Waukesha County and our State is the ideal ‘win-win’ - celebrating and preserves the prodigious contributions of America’s largest immigrant ethnic group to the “most German of all the United States” while encouraging and advancing the logical educational, economic and cultural ties between Wisconsin and the German-speaking world. The Center serves as a long needed focal point for those seeking connection to the rich and diverse history of Germans and German culture in our State and as a locus for those intent upon building bridges of sound international engagement between Wisconsin and Europe in this era of rapid globalization.

Experience German opera in its full glory!

Florentine Opera’s new production of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman is a ghostly tale of a tormented ship’s captain, condemned to endlessly sail the seas for eternity – only the true love of one woman could release him.

New to Wagner?
As one of Wagner’s early operatic works, this would be a fantastic introduction to his world of drama, powerful singing, and rich romantic harmonies!

This classic maritime tale will unfold with brand new scenic and lighting design by Noele Stollmack. Paula Suozzi directs an internationally acclaimed cast in addition to the renowned Florentine Opera chorus. Joseph Rescigno conducts the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for what will most certainly be one of the most powerful opera events of the year!

THE "Swabian housewife" made her debut on the world stage in 2008, when Angela Merkel, neither Swabian nor a housewife but the chancellor of Germany, mentioned her at an event in (Swabian) Stuttgart. The American banks, which were failing, she said, should have consulted a Swabian housewife because…
