UAS/DFR Program
I don’t do their job.
I support it.
If we can give crews a better view of the scene before they step off the rig, or while they’re working the incident, that’s a win.
Proud to play a small part in helping them do what they do every day.

At Menlo Park Fire Protection District, the Training Division is more than instructors, coordinators, or administrators, we are the foundation that helps every member of our department succeed. We proudly consider ourselves “Hero Support,” because while others may see the emergency response on the front lines, we know that excellence in the fire service begins long before the call comes in.

“Why We Do What We Do” is rooted in a commitment to service, professionalism, and people. Every drill prepared, every classroom session delivered, every policy updated, and every training ground evolution organized is done with one purpose in mind: making sure our firefighters, medics, and officers are prepared to protect the community and each other at the highest level possible.

Behind the scenes, our team works tirelessly to coordinate logistics, support on-duty crews, organize exercises, prepare equipment, and ensure every opportunity for learning is meaningful and effective. Whether supporting a company during training, assisting after difficult calls, or preparing members for promotional opportunities and certifications, we understand that every detail matters because every firefighter matters.

What makes this work meaningful is the shared sense of purpose. The fire service has always been built on teamwork, and the Training Division exists to strengthen that bond every day. We believe that when we invest in each other, challenge each other, and support each other, we create a stronger department and a safer community.

We love what we do because we know our impact extends far beyond the training ground. The lessons taught, the standards upheld, and the culture we help build shape the future of Menlo Park Fire Protection District. Our mission is not simply to train firefighters, it is to empower professionals, develop leaders, and support the heroes who answer the call.

This is why we do we do.
Because preparation saves lives.
Because teamwork builds excellence.
Because pride in service drives progress.
And because supporting those who serve our community is one of the greatest responsibilities we could ever have.

In 2019, Engine 1 and Truck 1 responded to a drowning at Burgess pool. Captain McGlennon who was off duty, but at the pool helped rescue this 14-year-old girl (Sara) from the water after she went into cardiac arrest during a swim meet. The members on E1 and T1 arrived and were able to successfully resuscitate her, and she made a full recovery. Her father, Mark, keeps in touch with our Battalion Chief often and gives him updates on how well she is doing and how she is living her life to the fullest.

These pictures are from when Firefighter/Paramedic Kaufman, Firefighter/Paramedic Nixon, and Battalion Chief Menard visited her at Stanford Hospital during her recovery. A couple of years ago, they got to stop by her high school graduation dinner and congratulate her. "They remind me during the most frustrating days what really matters."
