Mendon Historical District Study Committee

Mendon Historical District Study Committee The purpose of this committee is to explore the possibility of creating an official historic district within the town of Mendon.

At their meeting on October 5th, 2015 the Board of Selectmen voted to establish a Local Historic District Study Committee under MGL Ch 40C consisting of three to seven members. The committee shall make an investigation and report on the historic significance of the buildings, structures, features, sites or surroundings included in such proposed local historic district or districts as the committee

may recommend, and shall submit a final report with its recommendations after a public hearing, together with a map of the proposed district or districts and a draft of the proposed bylaw, to the Board of Selectmen. The purpose of a local historic district is to aid property owners and the Town of Mendon in the preservation and protection of the distinctive characteristics and architecture of buildings and places significant in the history of the Town of Mendon. This includes the maintenance and improvement of their settings and the encouragement and support of new and innovative building designs and techniques compatible with the existing architecture. We are seeking community input, and hope to keep the public updated on our progress through this page.
