According to a brief history, Mendham has been fortunate to maintain a public library since 1797. Begun as the Mendham Library Company, transformed into The Literary Club and the Book and Thimble Club, this generous and supportive community has always made the library a top priority. The Book and Thimble Club was so named because a member of the club would read while others would sew items for a yearly bazaar that funded the library’s collections. Formed in the 1970s, the Friends of the Mendham Borough Library (our modern day Book and Thimble Club) run friend and fund raising events that also go directly to maintaining the library’s collections. Help us continue these great Mendham traditions -- join the Friends today and be an integral part of making these events memorable. The Friends are actively looking for volunteers so please contact the library for more information if you would like to help.
