Today, Juvenile Court of Memphis & Shelby County joins our nation in honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the first responders and everyday citizens whose courage and service defined that day.

May we continue to carry forward a spirit of service, unity and remembrance.

We will never forget.

Juvenile Court will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day and will reopen Tuesday, September 8, at 8 a.m.

🎃 Memphis, we’re back!

Juvenile Court of Memphis & Shelby County is excited to once again partner with the Chief Clarence L. Cash Jr. Firefighter Foundation for our annual “Candy Coated” Trunk or Treat and Coat Giveaway!

What started as a community event has continued to grow each year, bringing families together for a day of fun while making sure children across our community are prepared for the colder months ahead.

Last year, we were able to provide hundreds of coats to children and families, and this year, we’re setting our goal at 800 coats! 🧥💙
Join us Saturday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Juvenile Court for free candy, family fun and our coat giveaway.

Some of the most important work at Juvenile Court happens because people choose to show up. 💙

Yesterday, we had the honor of celebrating the incredible volunteers who give their time, talents, and hearts to support the children and families we serve throughout Memphis and Shelby County.

From our CASA and Foster Care Review Board volunteers, to those serving through Volunteer Services, to the attorneys and young people who dedicate their time to Youth Court, each plays an important role in helping Juvenile Court strengthen families, support rehabilitation, and create better outcomes for our community.

As Judge Sugarmon shared, rehabilitation does not happen simply because a judge signs an order. It happens because somebody shows up. Somebody listens. Somebody advocates. Somebody mentors. Somebody helps a family find its footing.

Yesterday was our opportunity to say thank you to the people who continue to be that “somebody” for our children and families.

Your service is seen. Your time matters. And your impact reaches further than you may ever know. ❤️

Juvenile Court will reopen and resume full Court operations on Tuesday, August 25.

All regularly scheduled dockets and services will resume. Dockets affected by Monday’s closure will be reset, and Notices of Hearing will be mailed to the addresses on file.

Due to the impact of Saturday’s storm, Juvenile Court will be closed for regular Court operations on Monday, August 24.

The following dockets will proceed as scheduled:

VIRTUAL
9:00 a.m. | Preliminary Hearings
All Day | Dependency & Neglect (including first-settings)

IN PERSON
1:00 p.m. | Detention/Delinquency Docket

Individuals scheduled for any other Court matters should not report to the courthouse on Monday.

What a week in Memphis! 💙

Shelby County was proud to host the 43rd Annual Tennessee Juvenile Court Services Association Conference on Youth Justice at The Peabody Memphis, bringing juvenile court professionals from across Tennessee together to connect, learn, and strengthen the work we do for children and families.

A huge shout-out to our Juvenile Court team for helping make this year’s conference a success, with special recognition to Erica Glynn for her leadership and hard work in bringing it all together.

And we couldn’t host a conference at The Peabody without a little Memphis tradition! Judge Sugarmon had the honor of serving as the 2026 Honorary Duckmaster, leading the world-famous Peabody Ducks on their march. 🦆

We were proud to welcome our colleagues to Shelby County and even prouder to showcase the people and purpose behind the work happening here at Juvenile Court.

CASA volunteer, Shernita Brown, came by today to pick up backpacks donated by Kappa Alpha Theta Memphis Alumnae Chapter. Shernita is already a superhero. She’s a Shelby County Government 911 dispatcher! And her brother, Shelby County Sheriff's Officer Hulon, is working at Juvenile Court of Memphis & Shelby County today and was happy to es**rt her up to CASA office to pick up the backpacks. “I’m proud of myself for doing what other people didn’t think I could do... and for doing what I didn’t think I could do.”

Those are Pierre’s words.

They’re also a reminder of what’s possible when young people are given accountability, opportunity, and the right support.

At Juvenile Court, we believe rehabilitation isn’t just an idea. It’s a young person returning to school. A first job. A restored relationship with family. Finding hope again.

Through partnerships like Youth Advocate Programs (YAP), we’re helping connect young people with the mentorship, resources, and support they need to build a different future while remaining connected to their families and community.

Pierre’s story is proof that a young person’s circumstances do not have to define where their story ends.

Children now become adults later. The work we do today shapes what comes next.
