I am honored and extremely proud to serve as your new Shelby County TRUSTEE! As we look toward the future, the Trustee’s Office is entering a new era, focused on service excellence, innovation, transparency, and accountability.

Our upcoming 2026 - 2030 strategic plan will provide a roadmap for strengthening public trust, improving service, and enhancing the way we serve Shelby County

Together, we will build on a strong foundation and continue our commitment to SERVICE, TRUST, and COMMITMENT through superior financial stewardship for the citizens of Shelby County.

Message from outgoing Trustee, Regina Morrison Newman:

Tomorrow, a new Trustee will be sworn in, Joseph Lee, III. Joseph has been with this office for 7 and a half years and we wish him the best.

It has been a pleasure and honor for me to serve you for the last 8 years as head of what we consider as the flagship office of Shelby County government. The Trustee is an elected Constitutional officer responsible for property tax collection of nearly $900 million annually, serves as the County’s banker, handles over $4.5 billion in transactions a year, and invests all County funds. So, you ask, what have we accomplished in the last 8 years? Just check it out. I encourage you to always expect more of your public officials and I hope we have served you well. We thank our entire Trustee team for these accomplishments and successes. They are the tops! I wish the best to all of you and look forward to my future endeavors.

As you know, the Trustee's Office sponsors the Greater Memphis Financial Empowerment Center ( www.GMFEC.org ), providing free one on one financial counseling to Shelby Countians. We are excited to share that Panera is allowing the GMFEC to host a fundraiser at the Laurelwood location this Wednesday, July 15th, all day (6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.). We will receive 30% of sales from anyone who shares the attached flyer or inputs the code for online orders. Catering orders are excluded, unfortunately.

If you forget the flyer, there is a Facebook event that you can show them when you are ordering.

The Trustee's Office offers sincere condolences on the loss of a true friend and statesman, State Representative G.A. Hardaway Sr., this morning. Rep. Hardaway has been a valuable partner in many of the legislative and community priorities of our office especially in assisting senior citizens, helping our taxpayers, and moving our community toward financial success. He was kind enough to be our speaker at a forum held last fall on addressing student loan debt and we were working with him on legislation on that subject. Our Baby Budget Basics program for expectant parents at the Greater Memphis Financial Empowerment Center was a thought he had originally when we partnered on his Merry Christmas Baby distribution of baby supplies to the community. He was always available to help and move needed legislation through the process. Our community has lost a vital leader. Rest in peace.
