$12,000 extra award posted in 2024 murder of young woman –
MEMPHIS, TN – A CrimeStoppers cash award of $12,000 is available to anyone who can help authorities identify the people involved in the shooting of Kelsay Franklin, 27, after she gave four people a lift in her car to the Eastern Heights Apartments in the Lester community the afternoon of January 27, 2024.
Franklin said the group asked for a ride from the area of Dwight and Pendleton streets to 281 W. Johnson Circle inside the apartment complex. From there she planned to drive to a restaurant where her family was celebrating her younger sister's birthday. Instead she was shot by one of the four people she helped. Police found her lying on the street beside her car. She was able to tell them that after the four got out of the car, they shot her, pulled her onto the street, took her purse and went through her pockets before fleeing through a fence and onto the Greenline that runs through east Memphis.
The family has raised $8,000 for an extra award in the case. That, plus the $4,000 eligible from CrimeStoppers, lifts the total award to $12,000 that can be paid to anyone who calls 901-528-CASH (2274) with information that will help authorities identify those involved in the shooting. Photos taken by a surveillance camera show the four, possibly one man and three women.
“I want justice for my daughter and family,” her mother, Tammy Franklin, said. “I hope and pray someone will come forward.”
“There are people in the community who would look over the photos and say they might know the individuals involved in this crime,” said David Wayne Brown, director of CrimeStoppers. “We ask people to call us even with the smallest detail or notion.”
Franklin was taken to Regional One where she was put on life support. After six days breathing with a ventilator she asked to be released, her mother said. At that point the aggravated robbery and shooting became a homicide case.
