📚 Where better to teach English than in a room full of books?

As we celebrate Unesco's International Literacy Day, our ELA teachers and the wonderful work they do on our campuses, we salute University High School ELA teacher Erica Hipp. This summer, Ms. Hipp had a vision: to transform the UHS library into a classroom where literacy and reading are part of the environment every single day.

By making the library her teaching space, Ms. Hipp is creating a safe, cozy and welcoming place for students to learn, grow and read, with walls of books serving as the backdrop to lessons and putting literature right at students’ fingertips. She has also provided access to online ebooks and audio books, plus auto-membership of the Memphis Public Library online catalog. It’s a creative example of how our teachers rethink traditional learning spaces to better support students and cultivate a love of reading!

We can’t wait to see the library (and the readers within it) continue to develop under Ms. Hipp's guidance! 💙📖

University Schools community,

We hope your school year is off to a wonderful start! We want to remind you of two important upcoming schedule notes:

All University Schools will be closed Monday, September 7, for Labor Day. There will be no school for students, faculty, or staff on this day.

Additionally, Wednesday, September 23, will be a professional development half-day for faculty and staff at Campus School, Campus School Kimball, University Middle and University High (but not the ELRC). Students will be dismissed early according to the following schedule:

Campus School and Campus School Kimball: 11:15 a.m.
University Middle School: 11:00 a.m.
University High School: 11:00 a.m.

Extended Learning is officially underway! 🙌

We are thrilled to celebrate the launch of our University Schools Extended Learning programming, which commenced this week and is made possible through collaboration with our incredible community partners. These include Sana Yoga; Mid South Chess; Soccer Shots; Children's Ballet Theater; Summer Avenue Art & Clay; Mid Town Krav Maga; Sunfish Theater; Bits, Bytes, and Bots, and Wings Gymnastics.

These programs create meaningful opportunities for students to explore new interests, build skills, stay active, create, collaborate and continue their learning beyond the school day. Extended Learning helps our students grow in joyful, engaging and purposeful ways.

A huge thank you to the partners, educators, and staff who make this work possible! We are so excited for all the learning, creativity and connection ahead!

University Schools is seeking a detail-oriented finance professional to support school and district budget management, account reconciliation, monthly financial reviews and compliance with district financial procedures.

Working under the direction of the Senior Director of Federal Programs, Finance and Compliance, this role will collaborate closely with school leaders and the finance department to promote fiscal accountability and efficient budget operations across our district.

Exciting grant news for University Schools! 💙

We are thrilled to share that we have been awarded a Behavior Support Grant from the Tennessee Department of Education!

This generous grant will allow us to partner with the University of Memphis Autism Clinic and its director Dr. Thouraya Al-Nasser to provide direct services and support for our students and teachers during the 2026–2027 school year.

We are overjoyed by this opportunity to strengthen student support, empower our educators and continue building learning environments where every child can thrive.
