A recent meeting in Whitehaven hosted by Beverly Davis, a member of the superintendent search advisory committee, turned out to be a chance for residents to tout Empowerment Zone leader Vincent Hunter for the job.

Happy Sunday faces,

As a former candidate for school board district 6, I am often asked my views of how MSCS should find their next Superintendent. My statement:

“As a mother, this year, I made the decision to pull my child from MSCS because he was not getting what he needed to be successful. Last year, my child went through for several reasons as a result of the current culture and climate within MSCS, the lack of resources and overall dissatisfaction. This is what sounded the alarm for me that Memphis needs radical and innovative change to address the education system for students in Shelby County. I am in full support of a National Search to find Memphis - Shelby County’s next Superintendent. A National Search, with community input, oversight and transparency will allow for the best candidate to prevail and ensure an equitable process for finding the person who can turn things around. “Appointing” the next Superintendent without a search would not only be the school boards attempt at continuing with the status quo, but it would demonstrate their inability to listen to their communities and lead during a critical time in this school district. I look forward to an equitable process where our next Superintendent candidates are considered based on their experience, effectiveness and their qualifications.”

This is super exciting to see the changes and development happening in Whitehaven. I’m most excited about the opportunities it will provide for the youth in the community. This new community center will offer state of the art event space and support youth programming in Whitehaven which is absolutely apart of the change we need. Thanks Mayor Jim Strickland for prioritizing Whitehaven in your outreach to the Governor for funding to better support this community.

Happy Sunday and Happy Election Week! 💜💪🏽💜💪🏽. When I started this race I remained focused on three things.

1. I would run my race with integrity and class because at the end of this, I’m still mommy and I wanted him to see his mom fight for a quality education for him and all children!

2. I would focus on and listen to “THE PEOPLE” in the communities that I was looking to serve. I’m not a career politician and will never seek the approval/endorsements of politicians as I won’t OWE anybody a thing when this is over. I’m not getting in bed with none of these folks! Those who are genuine will support me as everybody who knows me is aware I’m focused on children! Period!

3. If elected, I would continue to work collaboratively with local and state leadership to do ONLY what’s in the best interest of children and not in the best interest of “self” and politics.

Early voting is over and ELECTION Day is THIS THURSDAY August 4th. This campaign journey has been FUN. Networking with all the school leaders, students, families and community members has been everything I’d hoped it would be.

Let’s bring this home District 6, and elect your neighborhood home town girl to represent Whitehaven, Westwood, South Memphis and Riverside as your next School Board Commissioner!

The most QUALIFIED, only Woman and MOM in this race!

Astronomy camp during the day and working the polls for mommy at night! He makes me SO proud! I’m traveling but hear Jaxson had some help yesterday at the polls from JB Smiley Jr.., encouraging him to ask voters to support his mom. Thanks Mr. Smiley for pushing Jaxson to be “the closer” letting his voice be the last voice voters hear asking them to support his mom! It’s important for me that he see positive male images who are encouraging our young men.
