ABC7NY Bill Ritter made an important announcement about his health that will take the veteran journalist off the anchor desk. He has Alzheimer’s disease. We honor his bravery and strength and send support to him, his family members and all of his trusted viewers. Last night was his final anchor shift, however he will stay on as a reporter and share information about Alzheimer’s. We are here for him and we are here for you. If you have any questions about your own memory or the memory of a loved one, please call our 24 seven helpline 800-272-3900.

Bill Ritter, who has anchored the 6 p.m. newscast for ABC New York station WABC since 2001, said Friday's broadcast would be his last at the anchor desk.
