Natasha Oliney- Town of Melville Council Member Mayor Pro Tem

03/18/2025

Good evening citizens of Melville. I’m providing you an update on the reserve accounts the citizens have been paying an additional $9 a month for.
An ordinance was put in place to protect the funds. The Mayor could not use 90% of the dedicated funds on other expenses.
Tuesday, March 11, 2025 was the first time the board met for a regular town hall meeting since November 2024 due to canceled meetings.
The additional $9 we have been paying monthly since November 2024 has not been allocated to the reserve accounts we were told we needed in order to secure water meters for the town.
I inquired why the dedicated funds have not been allocated to the reserve accounts. The Mayor responded “They told me I had to pay the Town bills,”
She also stated she only used the bare minimum needed to open the accounts.
I will not let our money be misappropriated AGAIN!
Please contact Mayor Robertson with concerns you may have.
It’s time to hold our leaders accountable.

Good evening Citizens of Melville, the Water and Wastewater Ordinance passed and we were able to negotiate the increase in (3) $9 increments to ease the burdens of the citizens. This increase will be spread out in 18 months. We were told this morning the fire truck is paid off; therefore the $7 charge will no longer be on the bills. An ordinance was put in place stating 90% of the funds collected will be used for the water meter project only.

Citizens United of Melville is hosting an informational meeting on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 5:30p.m at St. John’s Catholic Church (Keher) Hall in Melville, —-Street, to discuss a proposed new Water and Waste Ordinance that will increase water/sewer services for every resident by $27.00 monthly.

Citizens United, a nonprofit organization, wants to ensure every Melville resident is aware of the proposed increase prior to the public hearing that is scheduled for Monday, September 30th at 8am. Immediately following the hearing, a Special Meeting will be held to adopt a new Water and Wastewater Ordinance that will increase every resident’s bill by $27.00 monthly. According to information posted on Facebook, the following example was provided: “a single family resident inside the town limits currently pays $75.00 for water and sewage. If this Ordinance is adopted by the town council members, Melville residents will be paying $102.00 plus the cost of gas usage MONTHLY starting October 15, 2024.

The increase varies for Commercial properties inside and outside of the town limits. The reason for this increase is the money was not properly distributed in the reserve accounts 8 + years ago when the administration adopted an Ordinance to increase water bills by more than $20.00 to meet the demands of the USDA Water Meter requirements.” Citizens United encourages residents to attend the informational meeting on Saturday, September 28th, to obtain the facts prior to any action taken by the Melville Town Council . Refreshments will be provided.
