🐛 Playground Alert: Tussock Moth Caterpillars Are Back! 🌳

This time of year, you may start spotting tussock moth caterpillars around the playground and nearby trees. While they might look interesting (and even a little fluffy), please remind children not to touch them.

⚠️ Why?

Those fuzzy hairs can irritate the skin—similar to tiny fiberglass—and may cause itching or discomfort.

👀 What to watch for:

Caterpillars with long, hair-like bristles
Often found on trees, benches, or playground equipment
Small white cocoons that look like cotton balls

🧴 If contact happens:

Use tape to gently remove any visible hairs
Wash the area with soap and water
Apply ice or a baking soda paste to soothe irritation
Seek medical advice if the reaction seems severe

Big thanks to Tom and our Viera East CDD crew for placement of our new kids climbing tree for the playground. It was sad to see our old tree go, but there was too much decay and we felt it was no longer safe. The interesting news is that just like the old tree, this new tree was re-purposed as a result of a lightning strike. We hope the kids have just as much fun climbing this tree!

🙏 A Huge Thank You to Our Incredible Community and CDD Team! 🙏

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the cleanup efforts these past two days, especially to Ed and the amazing CDD team for working diligently to restore our beautiful community. From Woodside Park to other areas of the CDD, their hard work made a huge difference! 💪🌳

A special shout-out to all the residents who pitched in with debris removal—your willingness to lend a hand shows just how strong our community is! It took 4 loads to get it all done, but now our Farmers Market tomorrow won’t have to worry about any debris, and everyone can enjoy walking in the park again! 🥕🍞🚶‍♂️

Thank you, Ed, and your team, for all your hard work and for supporting the residents, and thank you to our community for being so awesome! Together, we keep our neighborhood beautiful and thriving. 💚

Woodside Park needs some love! There are limbs, sticks, and branches down throughout the park. If you’re out there and would like to lend a hand, please place debris in the parking spaces near the large dog park so our CDD team can pick it up. 🙌🌳

We’re also happy to confirm that the Viera East Farmers Market is still scheduled for Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Our small business vendors need your support, especially in these challenging times, so come by and shop local! 🥕🍞

We truly appreciate our community coming together—many hands make for strong partnerships! Our team is hard at work getting the restaurant, golf course, and community areas cleaned up and ready for everyone to enjoy again.

Please please please, do NOT leave your ci******es at children's parks where they play and pick everything up and put in their mouths...

Found all of these underneath the bridge at Woodside park. Please put your trash in receptacle, especially cigarette butts that shouldn’t be left on a children playground.

This last weekend was “Art in the Park” where kids could paint using different art medians! A big thank you to one of our local artist Grace Tapert for her time and artistic talents to help the kids learn the beauty of art!

Wondering why all the large milk w**d plants 🪴 at the park in the butterfly garden is almost bare…now I see why! Hopefully we have chrysalis hanging around for more beauty!!
