How about some honesty?
I care about the city. I care about the community.
Since announcing my run for office I've heard many things.
I've heard that the outcome of campaigns depends on who received the most donations.
I've heard that money wins the seat.
I've heard that without the right amount of donations you don't stand a chance.
I've heard that canvassing, scouting for and generating volunteers is what wins the vote.
I've heard that knocking on doors and getting to know your neighbors is what really gets you popular.
I've heard that I better make peace with my past and be OK with any dirty secrets I may have.
I've heard that I had to stop certain things in my life that I enjoy because after all how will it make me look.
I've heard I fit the part of the small town local guy really well.
I've heard “why would you want to get into politics when you've opened a successful business?”
I've heard “you're a lot braver than me, that's something I would never do.”
I've heard good luck to you and I hope you win.
I've heard "you are silly and nobody is going to take you seriously."
Now if you would be so kind I would like you to hear some things,
They do not want me to win.
They do not believe I’m for real.
I do not fit inside of their political box.
I do not believe at the heart of it, that money wins the election.
I do understand the importance of donations and why they are needed.
And an extra special shout out for all of the folks who have donated, it is genuinely appreciated and going solely to the propaganda you have seen around town with my image and messages.
But understand that I need you to participate in a vote for me more than I ever need a dollar from you or anyone in your community.
I understand and see the importance of when you folks share my social media posts and use my images as your profile pictures.
I understand the people that come and sit down with me and speak to me about their concerns in the community.
I am unsure of what I can do to help affect change for these folks currently, but I am determined to figure it out.
I care about my city. I care about my community.
Do not fall for more of the same. Do not accept what has been regular and commonplace. The fact that I am running is proof enough that each and every one of us has the ability to help things move forward in the proper direction. We are the trend setters and the creators of the future. It's far past time that we recognize that. I would love for you to vote for me this November 8th 2022 to help me be elected onto the Melbourne City Council. However, I would love for you to just vote on something that matters to you and that you care about.
