During the April 2 Board of Education election, Patrick McKelvey and Tori Behlke were re-elected to three-year terms, and Peggy Hassler and Jean Pretto were re-elected to two-year terms. Congratulations!

During the April 5 Board of Education election, Scott Huegerich and Sarah “Grace” Wright were elected to the Mehlville Board of Education. Both candidates are new to the Board of Education and will serve three-year terms.

We do thank Mr. Droney for his service to his country and still as a candidate for school board voters can and should ask how his financial history at courts.mo.gov show he will be responsible for taxpayer dollars?

“The Missouri Equity Education Partnership spent months putting together equity scores as a way to measure Missouri's school board candidates and where we believe they stand on equity issues: are they leaders, are they indifferent, are they anti-equity?

Candidates were initially graded in the categories of knowledge, curriculum, vision, and DEI goals.

Some candidates were then asked follow up questions and we rescored candidates, if necessary. MoEEP does not endorse any candidates for office.

Thanks to all three candidates for Mehlville BOE who responded. Below are the questions that were asked.

1. Please explain why you decided to run for school board in your district.
2. What is your vision for education in your community?
3. What attributes are essential for successful school board members?
4. What kind of relationship should a district/board have with its community? With its parents and families?
5. What do you see as the two major issues facing your school district? What solutions do you have for addressing those issues?
