“The Missouri Equity Education Partnership spent months putting together equity scores as a way to measure Missouri's school board candidates and where we believe they stand on equity issues: are they leaders, are they indifferent, are they anti-equity?
Candidates were initially graded in the categories of knowledge, curriculum, vision, and DEI goals.
Some candidates were then asked follow up questions and we rescored candidates, if necessary. MoEEP does not endorse any candidates for office.
Thanks to all three candidates for Mehlville BOE who responded. Below are the questions that were asked.
1. Please explain why you decided to run for school board in your district.
2. What is your vision for education in your community?
3. What attributes are essential for successful school board members?
4. What kind of relationship should a district/board have with its community? With its parents and families?
5. What do you see as the two major issues facing your school district? What solutions do you have for addressing those issues?
6. What should your school district do to better prepare students as citizens?
7. As a school board member, what are the most important factors to consider when setting budget priorities? Why?
8. Identify the elements of a teacher's typical day that you believe are most impactful for students.
9. Is there any additional information you would like to share that would help us in our assessment of your candidacy?”
