With an increase in attempted car larcenies, the Medina Police Department is asking that residents to lock their vehicles at night and take out any valuables or money. We will be increasing patrols in the problem areas.

Many times we are not made aware of attempted larcenies from vehicles but please, if you have video, reach out to us to report it as we keep these videos for evidence and to help track these crimes.

Please contact our police department during business hours at 585-798-5602 or Orleans County Dispatch during non-business hours.

The Memorial Day Parade is almost here!

There are a few things we would like the community and visitors to be aware of prior to Monday.

Please see the parade route below. The route will begin closing at approximately 10:30 AM, so please keep this in mind if you are traveling through the village.

The parade will begin around 11:00 AM. As the parade travels west on Park Avenue, Village personnel will reopen side streets along the route as it progresses.

E Center Street from Main Street to State Street will remain closed until the ceremony at State Street Park has concluded.

***Please do not move the cones on Park Avenue or E Center Street. These are placed to block off the parade route from traffic and help keep everyone involved safe.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Today Officer Meredith and Officer Brown of the Medina Police Department took part in the “Making Memories Safely” event designed to help prepare students to make responsible decisions during high-risk celebrations such as prom and graduation.

Our officers spoke with students about impaired driving, what to expect during a traffic stop, and the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel.

A mock crash scenario was also conducted, allowing students to witness the coordinated response to a serious accident involving injuries/death caused by drunk or impaired driving. Law enforcement, EMS, fire personnel, and the coroner all participated in the demonstration. Students were able to see firsthand not only the emergency response itself, but also the emotional impact these incidents can have on families, friends, and the entire community.

“The program benefits students by providing powerful, real-world perspectives from first responders and legal experts, increasing awareness of the dangers of risky behavior, and equipping seniors with knowledge and strategies to keep themselves and their friends safe during milestone celebrations and beyond.” – Making Memories Safely

Today, the Medina Police Department partnered with the Office of Counter Terrorism and the New York State Police for an outreach event focused on the “See Something, Say Something” campaign and Operation Safeguard.

Throughout the day, we visited 41 local businesses and spoke with 97 employees in the areas of Main Street, East Center Street, and West Center Street. Information was distributed on recognizing and reporting suspicious activity, with the goal of helping keep our businesses and community safe.

We would like to thank all of the businesses that took a few moments out of their busy day to speak with us and participate in the program. We also want to thank Eric from the Office of Counter Terrorism for coordinating this important outreach effort with our department.
