We want to give a very special thank you and congratulations to our own Janet Horst, who retired after 12 years with the Health Department and an incredible 43-year nursing career.

During her time with the Health Department, Janet made a lasting impact on countless families throughout our community. She was an integral part of our Newborn Home Visit, Complex Medical Assistance, and car seat programs, back-to-school immunization clincs, and played a crucial role in our COVID-19 response efforts.

While Janet won't be walking through our office doors on Monday, the compassion, care, and support she provided to families across our community will be felt for many years to come.

We are deeply grateful for Janet's decades of public service, dedication, and commitment to improving the lives in our county. We wish her a happy and well-deserved retirement. You will be missed, Janet!

If you had to guess the top cause of injury for Medina County residents aged 65 and up, what would it come to mind? If you thought of falls, you’re right.

Falls are the leading cause of injury for local seniors, but most are preventable with proactive changes. While many wait until after an accident to take action, joining a fall prevention class helps you build the balance and safety skills needed to stay active and independent.

Stepping On Fall Prevention Program has been researched and proven to reduce falls by 30%.
MCHD’s Stepping On facilitators will host a 7-session program that helps older adults avoid dangerous and costly falls.

If you or a family member are worried about a fall, join us:
📍Medina County Health Department, 4800 Ledgewood Dr., Medina
📅 Mondays, June 29th to August 24th, 2026 from 9 am-11 am (No sessions 7/27 or 8/3)
🔗Register Call 330-723-9688, option 2 or go to medinahealth.org/stepping-on-registration/

Some of the topics include:
-Identifying, removing, or avoiding fall hazards inside and outside your home
-Understanding how vision, hearing, medication, and footwear affect your risk.
-Practicing strength and balance exercises tailored to your needs.
-Learning the safest way to get back on your feet if a fall occurs.
