Our Fall Native Plant Sale is right around the corner! (9/25 9am-5:30pm & 9/26 9am-12pm) Fall is a great time to plant native plants, the warm soil and cooler air temperature makes for the perfect recipe for plants to established a root system before winter sets in. This sale we'll be selling quarts for $6(plus tax)

Join us for the fourth annual Native Plant Festival and Sale to explore the connection between native plants, people, and wildlife! Shop at our native plant sale, help us with monarch tagging, play some games, make fun crafts, and visit with and learn from our important native plant partners. The event will also serve as the pick‑up location for the Medina County Soil and Water District’s Invasive Species Buy‑back program (must have signed up previously through the soil and water district). Plant sale proceeds benefit Friends of Medina County Parks, Inc. All ages are welcome. No registration is required. Free admission.

The 4th annual Invasive Species Buy-Back Program has come to a close. Thank you to all who participated in improving the health of our watersheds! Every year we get more participating and this year, over 100 invasive species were removed by Medina County community members! A big thank you to our sponsors who also make this program possible!
Find us at the Medina County Park District Native Plant Festival on September 5th from 10am-3pm at Oenslager Nature Center to learn more about the program and how to participate next year!

Our next featured invasive species we invite you to cut down is Norway maple. Many varieties, like the "crimson king", have been marketed in the nursery trade. Tolerating poor soils and air pollution, Norway maples were widely planted as street trees and escaped cultivation. When they spread into wild spaces, they sometimes go unnoticed because the escaped trees have green leaves and can be similar looking to sugar maples. An easy way to identify them is they have more lobes than the sugar maple and the stem of the leaf releases a milky sap when plucked from the tree.

Last week, landowners attended our first Prairie Management Workshop to learn about the importance of prairies for our watersheds & wildlife, how to establish their own prairie, and what to expect when maintaining them. Thank you to all of those who attended, stay tuned for future prairie workshops!
