As National Public Works Week comes to a close, we could not let the week pass without recognizing the City of Medina Public Works Department.

Truthfully, they would probably prefer we didn’t.

Public Works is often the work nobody notices - until something goes wrong. Clean drinking water. Plowed roads before sunrise. Safe parks and trails. Repaired watermain breaks. Maintained streets. Storm response. Sewer service. Hydrants. Signs. Facilities. Clean-up events. Emergency response. Locates. Equipment repairs. Long days during snow, storms, heat, and weekends.

Much of the work happens quietly, behind the scenes, and without recognition. That is exactly how this crew prefers it.

This year’s National Public Works Week theme is “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” and it fits our staff well. Their work is rooted in service to Medina residents every single day, often before most people are awake and long after meetings are over.

To the Medina Public Works team: your work matters, it is appreciated, and it does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for everything you do for this community.

Staff at the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District have begun working in the area to reduce the overall number of mosquitoes and protect people from diseases caused by mosquitoes and ticks. You may notice green or white trucks with the MMCD logo or staff on bikes or on foot wearing brightly colored “Public Health Mosquito Control” vests. Helicopter treatments are likely to begin the week of April 20th, but may begin sooner depending on weather.

At times MMCD employees may need to cross private property to access and check areas for mosquito larvae. If you have questions about mosquito control activities or concerns about an employee, please call the MMCD front desk at (651) 645-9149 or visit MMCD.org.

Litter on our streets doesn’t stay on our streets. It washes into storm drains and flows directly into our lakes, rivers, and streams without being treated. This spring, help protect water quality by picking up trash in your neighborhood, securing your garbage bins, and reducing single-use plastics. Small actions make a big difference for clean water.

Notice: Xcel Energy Drone Inspections

Residents may notice drones operating near homes in the coming weeks—these are legitimate utility inspections being conducted on behalf of Xcel Energy.

Xcel Energy has informed the City that contractor crews will be in the area performing routine inspections of overhead electric lines.

As part of this work, crews will be using small drones near utility poles and wires.

These inspections help improve:

Service reliability
System safety
Wildfire risk reduction

Crews will keep the drone within sight at all times, and images will be limited to utility poles and electrical equipment only—not private property.

No action is needed from residents.
