Today, we recognize and celebrate the retirement of Officer Al Roland after an outstanding 25-year career in law enforcement, including the last 21 years serving the Medina Police Department.

For the past 13 years, Officer Roland has served as a School Resource Officer at our middle schools, where he became much more than a police officer. He was a mentor, role model, problem-solver, and trusted friend to countless students, staff, and families. His positive impact on our schools and community will be felt for years to come.

Throughout his career, Officer Roland has demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Whether working patrol or building relationships with students, he represented the Medina Police Department with integrity and compassion.

Please join us in thanking Officer Roland for his years of service and wishing him a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.

Congratulations, Al, and thank you for everything you have done for our department, our schools, and our community. We wish you all the best in this next chapter!

🚨 E-BIKES & SCOOTERS: WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW 🚨

We have recently seen an increase in incidents involving electric scooters, e-bikes, and similar motorized devices throughout the City of Medina β€” many involving juveniles. Before purchasing one of these devices for your child, we encourage parents to familiarize themselves with the laws, safety requirements, and where these vehicles can legally be operated.

Please review our Quick Guide for a breakdown of the different classes of e-bikes, scooters, and e-motorcycles, including:
β€’ Speed limits
β€’ Helmet requirements
β€’ Licensing requirements
β€’ Where they can legally be ridden
β€’ Lighting requirements

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER ⚠️
No person shall ride or operate a bicycle, skateboard, moped, motorized vehicle, motorcycle, or any other toy vehicle upon any public sidewalk within a ONE BLOCK radius of Medina Public Square. This includes electric scooters and e-bikes.

Parents β€” please know what your child is riding and where they are riding it. Many of these devices can reach significant speeds and may not be legal for juvenile operation depending on the type of vehicle.

Help us keep everyone safe while enjoying these devices responsibly.
