August 25-31is Black Breastfeeding Week. This year’s theme is “WE ALL WE GOT: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power”. Black breastfeeding week was created to highlight the disparities in breastfeeding rates among Black women and raise awareness to challenges unique to the Black community. It centers on the experiences, stories, and solutions for Black families, addresses systemic inequities, and highlights community-led support and the need for increased education while honoring Black families, culture, and community.

August 8-14 of Breastfeeding Awareness Month is Indigenous Milk Medicine Week. This year’s theme, “We Keep the Fires Lit: Rising Through Milk Medicine”, guides and grounds moms as they continue honoring, celebrating, and uplifting Indigenous Milk Medicine journeys across communities. The fire represents the responsibility to tend what sustains life - the knowledge, families, and the future generations. First foods carry memory and medicine forward, nourishing not only the body, but the continuity of community.

Every August, the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee hosts to encourage families, communities, and organizations to come together for action and conversations about how we can build a stronger support network for breastfeeding parents! 💖

This year’s theme is RISE, which stands for: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-determination, and Empowerment! 🐦‍🔥This year's theme was created by USBC to capture the heart and strength of the field while also honoring the change and growth that are still needed to further equitable access to breastfeeding support for all families.
