⚠️ Attention Medicaid Recipients ⚠️

Major federal changes to Medicaid are coming, created by H.R. 1 — the so‑called Big Beautiful Bill — signed into law by President Trump in July 2025.

📅 Beginning January 2027, adults ages 19–64 enrolled in Medicaid may face new federal work requirements & six‑month renewals. Because eligibility checks look back at the prior month, certain recipients may need to document 80 hours of work, schooling, volunteering, or job training in December 2026 to keep coverage on January 1.

PA DHS will begin sending letters, texts, and robocalls as early as September 21 to explain the new federal Medicaid work requirements, who is subject to them, and how people can meet them. Some individuals will qualify for exclusions.

📺 Today, I joined Pennsylvania State Senator Nick Miller (D‑14, Allentown) to co‑host a Micromobility Solutions and Safety Hearing, where we heard from stakeholders about the urgent need for clear e‑scooter and e‑bike rules, safer street design, and statewide micromobility standards.

Today’s testimony underscored why Abby’s Law — named for 12‑year‑old Abby Gillon of Ridley Township, who tragically lost her life in an e‑scooter crash last summer — remains so urgent. Witnesses detailed how protected bike‑lane planning, a uniform statewide framework for privately owned e‑scooters, and stronger crash‑and‑hospital data can help lawmakers craft evidence‑based public‑safety policy. Their perspectives reinforced why I’m sponsoring Abby’s Law and why Pennsylvania needs clear rules for how e-scooters, e-bikes, and all micromobility devices can safely fit into PA's transportation system.

We’ll discuss ongoing efforts in Harrisburg to set clear life‑saving safety and age rules for micromobility devices such as privately owned e‑scooters 🛴 and e‑bikes 🚲, as well as the status of Abby’s Law (SB 1008) — and why this bipartisan bill remains stalled despite strong support. We’ll also look ahead at the future of micromobility and what communities need as these devices become more common statewide.

The hearing includes participation from organizations such as the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, Mobilify Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Coalition for Appropriate Transportation, the Allentown and Salisbury Township Police Departments, the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, and AAA National.
