Company 23 Has Been Busy!

Over the past two weeks, Company 23 has answered the call across Delaware County, providing Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) coverage, assisting neighboring departments, and standing ready.

🔥 5/28/26 – Marcus Hook (501 Market Street)
Snorkel 23 responded as the 2nd RIT Team on a working fire assignment. Crews arrived and stood by with Station 68 units until released by Deputy 68.

🔥 5/29/26 – Edgmont Township (3430 Providence Road)
Rescue 23 responded as the primary RIT Team for a working building fire. Crews assisted with ventilation operations and remained on scene until released by command.

🚑🔥 6/4/26 – Aston Township / Media Borough
Company 23 was dispatched as the 2nd RIT Team to a working fire in Aston Township. While responding, Snorkel 23 was redirected to a serious medical emergency in Media Borough. Later that evening, Company 23 responded as the RIT Team to a working fire in Middletown Township, staging in the rear of the building until released by Deputy 46.

🔥 6/4/26 – Middletown Township (20 Van Leer Drive)
Company 23 was dispatched to assist Middletown Township on a working fire. Snorkel 23 arrived and set up as the primary RIT team in the rear of the property. Crews stood by until released by Deputy 46.

🔥 6/5/26 – Upper Chichester (33 Andrew Court)
Company 23 responded as the RIT Team on the 2nd Alarm for a working fire. Crews stood by on Side A of the structure until released by command. No RIT services were required.

Amid these notable mutual aid responses, Company 23 continued to handle a steady volume of emergencies within our own local response area. While assisting neighboring departments on working fires and special assignments, our members also responded to numerous fire, rescue, EMS assist, and service calls throughout the community.

Company 23 was dispatched along with mutual aid to the 400 block of East Lincoln Street for a reported building fire.

Chief 23 arrived on scene to find an exterior trash fire in the rear of the residence with extension that had been largely knocked down with portable extinguishers prior to arrival. Engine 50 arrived first due and placed a booster line in service to extinguish the remaining hot spots. Crews conducted an interior investigation and confirmed there was no extension into the residence.

Squad 23 headed to a fire in Marple township.

On April 9th, Media Fire Company, Media Police Department, Medic 104, and MICU 14 responded to a reported cardiac arrest involving a 35-year-old male at the intersection of 4th and Monroe Streets.

Police officers arrived within minutes and immediately initiated CPR, quickly applying an AED. During a pulse check, the AED advised a shock, which was successfully delivered.

Shortly thereafter, Squad 23 and Medic 104 arrived within 3 minutes from dispatch and continued resuscitation efforts, providing high-quality CPR and initiating advanced life support interventions. Crews successfully achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), and a blood pressure was obtained on scene. While ventilatory support continued, the patient regained consciousness.

Upon the arrival of MICU 14, personnel packaged the patient for transport. The patient was then transported by MICU 14 and Medic 104 to Riddle Hospital for further care.

This incident highlights the critical importance of rapid response, early CPR, and defibrillation, as well as the seamless coordination between all responding agencies.

On April 12th at approximately 14:45 hours, Company 23 was requested to assist Company 59 on a large brush fire.

Squad 23 and Engine 23 arrived on location and assisted with fire extinguishment operations. Crews operated on scene for approximately three hours before being released by 59 Command.

🚨 House Fire

On Sunday morning at approximately 05:45 hours, Company 23 and MICU 23 were dispatched to assist Company 73 (Rose Tree) on a reported building fire.

Chief 73 arrived on location and confirmed a working basement fire. Engine 23 responded and established a water supply to the scene. The crew from Engine 23 assisted Quint 73 with locating and extinguishing the seat of the fire.

Once the fire was brought under control, crews remained on scene to assist with overhaul operations.

On March 9th at approximately 06:45 hours, Company 23 was dispatched to the intersection of 4th and Edgmont Street for a reported vehicle fire.

Squad 23 arrived to find a fire that had self-extinguished in a Media Borough trash truck. The crew followed the trash truck back to the Borough garage where the load of trash was emptied and checked for any remaining fire.

While going through the debris, firefighters located two lithium-ion battery packs that had ignited inside the trash. The remaining fire was quickly extinguished by crews.

This incident serves as an important reminder that lithium-ion batteries should not be disposed of in household trash. Batteries should always be removed from tools or appliances before disposal. Many retailers, including Home Depot and Lowe’s, offer recycling drop-off locations where batteries can be safely disposed of.

Proper disposal helps prevent fires in trash trucks, recycling facilities, and landfills.
