Busy Night for Township Firefighters

Our township firefighters were kept busy during the early morning hours Thursday, responding to two working structure fires in less than two hours.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., crews from both Township stations assisted Aston Township Fire Department at a commercial building fire at the Primo’s Hoagies on Concord Road in Aston.

Approximately one hour later, Township firefighters, along with our mutual aid partners, were dispatched to the unit block of Van Leer Avenue for a residential dwelling fire in Middletown Township.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of responding crews, the fire was brought under control with no reported injuries. Firefighters remained on scene for just over two hours conducting suppression, overhaul, and investigation operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Township Fire Marshal’s Office.

We thank all of our mutual aid partners for their assistance

Prom Safety Demonstration for Penncrest Seniors

Friday morning, Township firefighters and EMS personnel partnered with the PA State Police to present a mock motor vehicle crash for Penncrest High School seniors ahead of their prom later that evening.

The realistic demonstration highlighted the potentially life-altering consequences of impaired and distracted driving, giving students a firsthand look at the emergency response that follows a serious crash. Through the combined efforts of firefighters, EMS providers, and state troopers, students were encouraged to make safe and responsible decisions as they celebrate this important milestone.

We are grateful for the opportunity to work with our public safety partners and Penncrest High School to help promote safe choices and ensure everyone has a memorable—and safe—prom night.

Township firefighters marked this Memorial Day by attending the 145th annual Rockdale Memorial Day Parade, joining the community in honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

The longstanding tradition brought residents, veterans, and first responders together in remembrance and reflection while continuing to showcase the strong sense of patriotism and community pride that defines Delaware County.

We wanted to pass along our congratulations to the four co-op students who interned at our two fire stations this school year as they graduated Wednesday evening from the Delaware County Technical Schools.

Several members of our Public Safety staff were on hand to support them and wish them well as they move on to their next chapters.

A special thank you also goes out to their teacher, Kestin Wiemer, for helping us bring the concept of student firefighter interns to fruition last summer and guiding us through the process of making it a reality.

Programs like this not only provide students with real-world experience, but also help strengthen the future of the fire service and the communities we serve.

If you know of a high school student with a passion for making a difference in their community, be sure to have them check out the Emergency and Protective Services at Delaware County Technical Schools.

Township firefighter's had a busy Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning this week. Engine 50 relocated to Upper Darby Station 74 while their crews operated on a dwelling fire just after 8pm.

Then just after 1am Wednesday, Rescue 50 was dispatched for a cover assignment to Radnor FD while Engine 46 remained staffed to cover our own Twp. While enroute, Rescue 50 with their crew of 6 were redirected to respond in on the 3rd alarm to the residential building fire in the 800 block of Leslie Lane in the Villanova section of Radnor Township. They operated on scene for just over 3 hours before being released.

Engine 46 handled a fire alarm at the Riddle Memorial Hospital around 3:30am Wednesday morning as well.

Wednesday morning, the Township’s Quint 50 & Ambulance 46 were among the units from across Delaware County that participated in the Emergency and Protective Services at Delaware County Technical Schools “A Day in the Life” Program — an event giving students the opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve learned throughout the school year to their families and invited guests.

The morning also created an unexpected reunion for three former Middletown junior firefighters who once trained as high school students and have since gone on to careers in public safety themselves.

A reminder that today’s students truly are the next generation of the Police, Fire and EMS service providers protecting our communities of tomorrow.
