Medford 9-1-1 Dispatch Dispatch for Police and Fire

07/18/2025

Today, we were honored to host a reunion between a crash survivor and the first responders who helped save his life.

In 2022, while driving on I-93, Sean was involved in a devastating crash in which he was impaled by a guardrail and ultimately lost his leg. Officers Peter Carbone and Brian Enos, who were unable to attend today, were the first to arrive on scene. Their quick actions, along with the life-saving efforts of all those responding, to include Emergency Communication Dispatchers Joe DeCristofaro and Liam Brennan who answered the call, made the difference in preserving Sean’s life.

As first responders, we rarely get to learn the outcome of the people we help—let alone have the chance to see them again. Today’s reunion was a meaningful reminder of the work we do.

This year, two of our very own Emergency Communications Dispatchers were honored with nominations for the annual Massachusetts Telecommunicator Awards by MCSA – Dispatcher Caitlin Tarentino for Telecommunicator of the Year and Dispatcher Chris Murphy for Visionary of the Year.

Telecommunicator of the Year is awarded to an individual who demonstrates exceptional dedication, professionalism, and performance—someone who goes above and beyond during critical incidents or through consistently outstanding daily contributions. Dispatcher Caitlin Tarentino was nominated by Supervisor Mike Salvi for her unwavering commitment to the community and her tireless efforts to assist the public. In one incident, she calmly handled a high-stress call involving an irate individual who had barricaded himself in his home. Through her composed and compassionate communication, the caller was eventually calmed and surrendered peacefully. At one point, he even shouted out the window, “I’m on the phone with Caitlin! Everything is alright!” Dispatcher Tarentino sets a positive example for her colleagues and always prioritizes officer and public safety.

Visionary of the Year recognizes a leader in the 911 profession who pioneers innovative ideas, drives strategic change, or champions advancements that benefit their center or the broader industry. Dispatcher Chris Murphy exemplifies this spirit through his deep pride in serving the city he loves. Known for his exceptional attendance—having gone years without a sick day—he consistently seeks ways to enhance the dispatch profession for everyone. Dispatcher Murphy is a Certified Training Officer and also serves with NEMLEC, responding to critical incidents throughout Northeastern Massachusetts. His initiative, dedication, and forward-thinking mindset make him a true asset to the department and the profession.

Please join us in congratulating Dispatchers Caitlin Tarentino and Chris Murphy on their well-deserved nominations!
