Incident Update:

On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at approximately 4:30am, Medford Police officers responded to Barbara Lane in West Medford for a reported breaking and entering into a motor vehicle.

While gathering information for the report, a description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to the officers on shift, who began searching the area. An officer later encountered a vehicle matching that description on Lincoln Road and attempted to make contact. At that time, the vehicle drove at the officer attempting to hit him, causing the officer to discharge their firearm at the vehicle.

The vehicle then fled the area, striking a parked car and sustaining significant front-end damage, which caused the vehicle to begin smoking. Despite the damage, the vehicle continued fleeing from officers, resulting in a low-speed pursuit through Medford and into Malden.

Massachusetts State Police and Malden Police officers assisted in the pursuit, and five juvenile suspects were ultimately taken into custody.

Investigators later determined that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen out of Woburn yesterday morning.

The juveniles involved were arrested and charged with the following:

Juvenile, 17, of Malden – Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Assault to Murder, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop, Marked Lanes Violation, Speeding, Resisting Arrest, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage

Juvenile, 16, of Somerville – Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle

Juvenile, 16, of Somerville – Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle

Juvenile, 16, of Malden – Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Outstanding Warrant

Juvenile, 14, of Malden – Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle
All involved were transported to Cambridge Juvenile Court to be processed.

The three officers and one suspect transported to area hospitals have since been released.

The officer who discharged their firearm is currently on leave.

This remains an active investigation.

Five Juveniles Taken Into Custody Following Early Morning Incident

On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at approximately 4:30am, the Medford Police Emergency Communications Center received a report of individuals attempting to break into a motor vehicle in the area of Barbara Lane in West Medford.

An officer in the area observed a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the area of Lincoln Road. As the officer attempted to make contact with the vehicle, it drove at the officer, resulting in the officer discharging their firearm.

Massachusetts State Police were notified and Medford Police officers and State Police Troopers followed the vehicle from Medford into Malden where the suspect vehicle was involved in a crash with a State Police cruiser.

The vehicle stopped shortly after, and the occupants fled on foot and were apprehended by Medford Police and State Police Troopers at James Streets and Medford Streets in Malden.

Five individuals, all juveniles, were taken into custody by Medford Police.

Three officers and one suspect were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. None of the injuries were related to the shots fired.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation.

Thank you to founding MACA member and former president Chris Bruce for presenting an outstanding two-day training course on Microsoft Access.

Designed specifically for crime analysts and public safety professionals, this class focused on helping participants leverage Microsoft Access for data management, organization, and analysis.

Through practical, real-world applications, attendees learned how to enhance data from their RMS systems and other law enforcement data sources, providing valuable tools to support daily operations and informed decision making.

We are grateful to Chris for sharing his expertise and experience with the public safety community, and we would also like to extend a special thank you to Medford Police Department for hosting the in-person portion of this valuable training.
