ABOUT BAMS FEST
WHEN: Saturday, June 29th, and Sunday 30th
WHERE: Franklin Park Playstead Field
WHAT: Soulful rhythms, infectiously danceable beats and the explosive creativity of both national names and some of Boston’s most promising artists and performers! The annual BAMS Festival is Boston’s only arts and music festival that exclusively promotes the creative magic and immense cultural contributions of Black and Brown performing, recording and visual artists.
Debuted in 2018, BAMS Festival has become one of Boston’s fastest growing cultural events, now welcoming an audience of over 10,000 to experience art and music that reflects the culture, creativity and perspectives of people of color. Its June date coincides with National Black Music Appreciation Month. The festival is open to audiences of all ages; the purchase of a Solidarity Ticket is requested!
This year, the event will be headlined by multi Grammy-nominated rapper, Rapsody, and acclaimed singer-songwriter, BJ the Chicago Kid. They will lead an eclectic lineup of world-class DJs and high energy talent from Boston and beyond performing an array of musical genres, including reggae, funk, soul, hip hop, house and more.
While much of the action will focus on the Main Stage, the festival also includes Rep Your City, a visual art exhibition, a Vendor Village showcasing local Black-owned businesses, the chance to learn Afro-diasporic dance styles from local Black choreographers – and Soul Food Row where food trucks will dish out international fare.
ABOUT THE BAMS FEST ORGANIZATION: The mission of the BAMS Fest organization is to advance racial equity, spatial justice and economic empowerment for Black and Brown artists and culture makers across Greater Boston by building a thriving and sustainable arts and culture ecosystem. In addition to its annual BAMS Festival the organization provides year round arts programming, activating public and private spaces across the neighborhoods to amplify the artistic power by creatives of color. It has supported and employed 700+ Black and Brown artists and cultural workers, with $450,000+ paid out in performances, gigs and speaking opportunities.
