The Upper Allen Fire Department proudly and professionally protects Upper Allen Township including the villages of Shepherdstown, Bowmansdale and Grantham in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Last night, our crew headed over to Mechanicsburg Borough for some crucial training in preparation for Jubilee Day! 🚒💨

Led by the Mechanicsburg Fire Department, we teamed up with our mutual aid partners from Monroe Township and Hampden Township. With Jubilee Day bringing large crowds and major street closures, yesterday's drill required a lot of critical thinking. We practiced stretching long hose lines from engines to simulated fire locations along Main Street, specifically navigating tight, narrow alleyways and overcoming various obstacles to get where we needed to be. 🧑‍🚒💦

Training like this ensures that when the big day comes, our joint operations are seamless. We love getting to work alongside our neighboring companies to keep our communities safe! 🤝

Excellence isn't given; it’s earned on the training bay floor. 🛑
Last night, our members took part in advanced Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations.
In the fire service, a RIT is the ultimate insurance policy. If a firefighter sends out a "Mayday" distress call, this specialized team goes into action immediately. Last night's drills focused on:
Navigating zero-visibility environments by touch alone.
Managing emergency air supplies for a trapped firefighter.
Executing complex carries and removals through tight spaces.
We don't expect emergencies to be easy, so we don't make our training easy. We are motivated by a shared commitment to this community and to each other. When you need us, we’ll be ready. When we need us, we'll be ready.

Today kicks off EMS Week 2026, and here at UAFD, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to the incredible EMS professionals who are a part of our own ranks, as well as the outstanding mutual aid agencies and crews we work alongside every single day.

Emergency response is a true team effort. Whether we are responding to a complex rescue, a medical emergency, or a major incident, the seamless collaboration between fire and EMS is vital. To put it simply: 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

To our internal EMS personnel who balance multiple roles to keep our community safe, and to all the dedicated EMS Providers we answer the call with day and night—thank you. Thank you for your skill, your compassion under pressure, and your unwavering commitment to being medicine’s frontline.

30 Years of Service
A huge congratulations to Captain Salter for receiving the 30-year diamond in his ring. Thirty years of unwavering commitment to this community and department is a monumental achievement. We are incredibly grateful for your leadership, your expertise, and the decades of service you have given to keep us all safe. Thank you, Captain!
New Interior Firefighter
We also want to give a massive shout-out to Firefighter Harrison for officially earning his black helmet!
After putting in countless hours of rigorous training and completing the required classes, FF Harrison is now interior qualified. This transition represents a major step in a firefighter's career and speaks volumes about his dedication to the craft and the safety of our residents.
Thank you both for your hard work and dedication to the department!

💡 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽𝘀?

We love being your go-to for safety, but there’s one thing we can't take at the station: 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙥𝙨 (needles, syringes, and lancets).

While we are here to protect you, our fire station isn’t equipped to handle medical waste. Disposing of them in the regular trash or bringing them to the firehouse can put our crew and waste collectors at risk for accidental needle sticks.

📍 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗼?
If you have sharps that need a home, here are the best ways to dispose of them safely right here in our community:

• 𝗨𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: They have a Medication Take-Back Box at 100 Gettysburg Pike. While these boxes are primarily for pills, there is often a dedicated sharps container located on the side of the unit. The box accepts individual sharps and sharp containers are not accepted at this location.

• 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Many pharmacies in Mechanicsburg and the West Shore area offer "sharps mail-back" programs or have specialized disposal kiosks. It’s always a good idea to give your local pharmacist a quick call to see if they participate!

• 𝗖𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀: Keep an eye on the Cumberland County website for specialized hazardous waste collection events throughout the year.

** It is advised to call ahead before visiting any location, as policies on accepting sharps can change.**

✅ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹:
1. Place used sharps in a strong, plastic container immediately.
2. Seal the lid with heavy-duty tape when the container is 3/4 full.
3. Label it clearly as "SHARPS - DO NOT RECYCLE."
