🚧 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬! 🚧

Norfolk Southern is beginning pre-construction work for the Carolinian Piedmont Passenger Rail Improvement Project.

From now through July, temporary roadway closures at rail crossings will occur Monday through Thursday for several hours at a time. Motorists should expect detours while crews stage and place rail replacement materials in preparation for future installation work.

Norfolk Southern is coordinating closures with NCDOT and will provide detour signage at affected locations.

Please reference the attached maps for affected crossings and detour routes.

The City of Mebane has not been provided with specific closure dates and times. The following rail crossings may be affected:

• Gibson Road
• Moore Road
• Third Street
• Fourth Street
• Fifth Street
• Mattress Factory Road
• Buckhorn Road
• Redman Road

Meet fellow bicycle enthusiasts at the Community Bike Ride this Saturday at 10:30 a.m.!

The Mebane Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) will lead riders on a kid-friendly, 2.6-mile route through Mebane. The ride begins and ends at the Mebane American Legion parking lot, just a short walk from the Mebane Community Park.

After the ride, head over to the park for the Juneteenth Freedom Day Community Celebration!

The City of Mebane joined Morinaga America Foods, Inc. for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the $136 million expansion of the HI-CHEW manufacturing facility on April 21, 2026.

Since opening its Mebane plant in 2015, Morinaga has grown alongside the community, producing every HI-CHEW sold in the United States.

The new 132,000-square-foot expansion will double production capacity, create 204 new jobs, and further strengthen Morinaga's commitment to Mebane and Orange County. Hear from company leaders, state and local officials, and learn more about the continued growth of one of North America's most popular candy brands.

NCDOT will begin road work at the intersection of Jones Road and Old Hillsborough Road on Monday, June 8, at 9 a.m.

All lanes of traffic will be closed during construction. Please follow the posted detour signs and plan for alternate routes.

The City of Mebane is now accepting applications for two open seats on the Mebane Racial Equity Advisory Committee (REAC). Applicants must live within Mebane city limits. Terms will expire on June 30, 2027.

Applications are due by June 19, 2026.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐂?
The REAC is made up of community members dedicated to researching, identifying, and addressing racial disparities across local government. The committee also advises City Council and staff on advancing equity through policies, programs, and procedures.

The committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
