Students were reassigned among other existing schools in Meadville. A large proportion, approximately 40%, went to East End Elementary. A year later, the decision of the local school board was to close East End Elementary School. All students and staff were simply relocated to the vacant Second District Elementary School. However, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, who grants final approval to such matters, declared that the school retain the name East End at least for a year. Throughout the 2012-2013 school year, the School District temporarily referred to the school as East End at Second District Elementary School. However, the School Board voted to change the name back to Second District, effective July 2013. The diverse community extends from Taco Bell to Hillcrest and includes everything in between.
