As soon as we are dispatched for a fire, we start thinking about a water source. If municipal hydrants are available, that’s always our first play. Color matters, since the default red is low flow (below 500gpm), orange is OK, green is good, and blue is best! Sometimes a freshly installed red hydrant just hasn’t been tested and painted the correct color. Then we don’t know what to expect until we open the valve to charge the supply line.
