West Bryan County Fire/Rescue West Bryan County Fire Department is a Fire and Rescue station, we provide emergency services to the town of Mead, OK and surrounding areas.

West Bryan County Volunteer Fire Department is a fire and rescue department providing emergency services to the town of Mead, OK and much of the surrounding area. We provide first-due coverage to an area spanning approximately 110 square miles. We provide mutual aid for all of Bryan County and surrounding counties. Our Department is also available to respond to large scale incidents in Oklahoma an

d surrounding states. Our first-due area is comprised of residential, small businesses, restaurants, manufacturing facilities as well as vast expanses of land. Our department covers the majority of one of Oklahoma’s biggest tourist attractions, Lake Texoma, one of the biggest man-made lakes in the United States. West Bryan County Fire Department is currently funded through county tax and via a small operations grant from the great state of Oklahoma. Beyond that all other costs are met via our fundraising efforts and through donations of the citizens we serve in our community. The Department has various specialized teams in the department, from a Dive Team, Swift Water Rescue, and High Angle Rescue Team. All firefighters go through extensive motor vehicle collision extrication classes both basic and advanced, along with all types of fire and medical training that they can continue to better educate themselves on to serve the people of not only Mead but all of Bryan County should the need arise.

❗️03/09/2021❗️

The West Bryan County Fire Department responded to a structure fire today (03/09/2021) at approximately 08:55 this morning. Original reports were that there was an unknown number of occupants inside.

While responding to the fire it was confirmed that there was an elderly female inside. Fire personnel arrived on scene at 09:03 and immediately began fire suppression on a structure that had already collapsed. Due to this it is was unsafe for fire personnel to enter the structure.

A short time after WBCFD arrived Durant Fire and Rescue arrived to assist and began fire suppression as well. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.

Unfortunately the fire did result in the fatality of the female occupant. We offer our deepest condolences to the family. We got them in touch with our fire department chaplain to help them with this unimaginable tragedy. The Chaplain was able to reach out and get them some support while also providing in person counseling to them at the scene.

Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.

*The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire. It is unknown at this time what may have caused it.
