It was an honor and privilege to be the speaker at the Telfair County MLK March 2023. I remember marching as a little boy with some of the pioneers of this county. I had no idea then that God was preparing me for this moment years later to be able to serve as the youngest and first African American judge in this county. I wasn’t the valedictorian of my class, I didn’t have a lot of money growing up, I was raised by a single mother with no father around, but GOD had a plan for my life. So don’t give up on anybody, because EVERYBODY IS SOMEBODY. God knows what we don’t know and sees what we can’t see. So I ask you, what is God preparing you for? Who knows… SO JUST STAY READY!

One of my goals as I serve as your probate judge is to strengthen the family unit. Since serving in this capacity, several couples have come to my office to get their marriage license. It’s one thing to get married, but it’s another to STAY married. Although a single man, I’m sure marriage takes work and I also believe that it’s worth putting in the work. Healthy marriages will have a positive effect on our youth which will thusly have a positive impact on our community as a whole. Therefore I have teamed up with a group of counselors and ministers from all denominations and non denominational, of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds that would like to offer you and your spouse/partner a FREE counseling session for married or engaged couples. I am so excited about this and it is my prayer that you take advantage of this opportunity. Session dates will be posted Jan 2, 2023. There will be an link posted where you can sign up at that time. Happy Veterans Day!

The young lady in the middle came into my office yesterday needing help. She had no place to live and no way to get in contact with her family. I was thankful that she remembered a family members number and I took it upon myself to give the aunt a call. However her aunt is facing battles of her own and couldn’t physically come. When I walked into my office this morning the sister of the young lady was on the phone and stated she was coming to look for her sister so she could get her home. Well I left the office with the family to go look for her and after riding a while I finally spotted her at one of our local stores. The look on her face when she saw her family was priceless. My mind immediately went to the lyrics of this song: “If I can help somebody as I travel along If I can help somebody with a word or song if I can help somebody from doing wrong then my living shall not be in vain.” Ask yourself Is my living in vain.

This morning Judge Wesley and I met with representatives from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, the Community Service Board of Middle Georgia, and Southern Correctional Medicine to discuss the drug and mental health crisis we have in our county and jail. We discussed options for getting those with mental health and substance abuse issues help before they end up in our custody, and if they do, options for post-release to assist them with adjusting to life back in the community. Other community outreach programs were also discussed. It was a very productive meeting.
