Early this morning, August 13, 2026, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Hurst Lane.

At about 2:43 a.m., deputies were dispatched after a male caller reported a disturbance and said “he is going to kill her.”

Deputies arrived within seven minutes. After hearing screaming from inside the residence, they made entry and found a 46-year-old man holding a knife to a 55-year-old woman’s neck.

Deputies ordered him to drop the knife. He refused. Deputies discharged their fi****ms, striking the man. He died from his injuries.

The woman was not injured. No deputies or anyone else inside the residence were hurt.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

As is customary, the Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation of the incident. Questions about the investigation should be directed to the Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Office.

HONORING INVESTIGATOR RYAN McKNIGHT

Over the past several days, we have been working closely with Ryan’s family to plan a Celebration of Life that reflects the man he was and the impact he had on so many people.

We now invite our community, Ryan’s friends, fellow first responders, and all those whose lives he touched to join us as we remember and celebrate his life.

Monday, August 31, 2026
10:00 AM

Caldwell County Community & Evacuation Center
2947 N. Magnolia Ave.
Luling, Texas 78648

Ryan’s time with our office was far too short, but the relationships he built and the impact he made extended well beyond our office. He served alongside law enforcement officers, firefighters, school districts, local agencies, and members of the community—and in a remarkably short period of time, he became a friend to many.

This will be a time to remember Ryan the father, son, brother, friend, public servant, and the man behind the badge—to share some stories, some laughter, probably some tears, and most importantly, to give thanks for the time we were blessed to have him with us.

Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to remain for a time of food and fellowship as we continue sharing memories and celebrating Ryan’s life.

Please share this announcement with others who knew Ryan or whose lives he touched.
