National Police Officer Week

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15th as National Peace Officer Day, specifically to honor the brave men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.

The entire week of May 15th is now National Police Officer Week. Sheriff Jackie D. Matheny, Jr., and his staff want to take this opportunity to thank each of our police officers who continue to serve our community with integrity, courage, and compassion.

We ask our community to join us in keeping all law enforcement officers, retired officers, and the families of the fallen in your thoughts and prayers during National Police Week. đź’™

May 6, 2026 National Correctional Officer Appreciation Week

During National Correctional Officer Appreciation Week, Sheriff Matheny and his staff are proud to recognize with deep appreciation the dedicated Correctional Officers of the Warren County Jail.

These men and women play a vital role in the safety and security at our jail, as well as providing security for our courts. There are days when their duties are challenging. However, they never waiver, and they serve with dedication and professionalism.

The public may not be aware of the role they play in public safety. They ensure the secure custody of inmates, maintain order within the facility, and support efforts toward rehabilitation and accountability through the programs we offer at our jail.

To all our Correctional Officers – we thank you!

Sheriff Matheny joined with District Attorney General Matt Colvard and Reddick Brown Ford General Manager Chris Chalfant in Morrison Elementary's Fun Day at Morrison School this morning. The group served hotdogs, chips and drinks to the students at the school as they were enjoying a playday outside after having a very successful school year. This is an event that Sheriff Matheny and his staff have been enjoying for the past several years.

Sheriff Matheny and his investigators were proud to spend time with the very dedicated staff of our Families in Crisis – New Beginnings team, as well as detectives from the McMinnville Police Department for a picture in recognition of Denim Day (April 30th) – a day set aside to continue to raise public awareness about sexual violence, educate the public on prevention, and support for victims. It is evident by observing the staff of our FIC that they are totally committed to the work they do with victims of domestic and sexual assaults. The Sheriff and his staff are thankful that we have these ladies to rely on in times where we have victims of crime relating to domestic and sexual abuse. Their expertise in assisting these victims of crime during and after the court process is invaluable.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dawn Taylor, a dedicated public servant and cherished member of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office family.

Before her years of service with our agency, Dawn bravely served her country as a United States Marine—a reflection of her strength, commitment, and love of community. During her time with the Sheriff’s Office, she was more than a valued employee—she was a leader among her peers, known for her kindness, loyalty, and the genuine friendships she built along the way. Dawn’s presence made a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to work beside her.

She will be remembered not only for her faithful service, but for the warmth and encouragement she shared with everyone she met.

Sheriff Matheny and the entire staff of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office extend our deepest condolences to her husband, Clayton, her sons, Tony and Terry, her grandchildren, and her extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
