๐Ÿ“ข McMinnville Weekly Wrap-Up: Tech Upgrades, Infrastructure Wins, and Festival Saturday! ๐Ÿ“ข

Our city teams have been hard at work this week pushing McMinnville forward with massive upgrades, safety milestones, and great community events. Here is a look at what went down:

๐Ÿ“ป Public Safety Milestone: We officially cut the ribbon on our transition to the Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN)! This state-of-the-art radio system connects our first responders with state and regional agencies instantly, dramatically improving emergency communications.

๐ŸŽ‰ Firefighter Certifications: Join us in congratulating Firefighters Jesse Byrne, Ian DeArmond, Joseph Taylor, Chris Kepley, Elston Harris, and Lucas Foutch for earning their official state commission certifications this week! Plus, 100% of our department's ground and aerial ladders passed their rigorous annual structural safety tests. Way to go, MFD!

๐Ÿšง Public Works & Clean Water Infrastructure: Huge strides in the field this week! Public Works successfully wrapped up the Smithville Highway stormwater drainage project and cleared two separate state environmental inspections. Over in the Water department, crews officially broke ground on the Kayla Lane water line installation.

๐Ÿ” Tourism & Dining Boom: Local business is thriving! Our latest tourism data shows that visitors accounted for a whopping 22% of all restaurant spending in McMinnville throughout May, while average daily retail spending per visitor nearly doubled year-over-year. We also just received the final design files for our upcoming new Visit McMinnville tourism brand!

๐Ÿฆข A Helping Hand: A special shout-out to our Public Works team who noticed an injured goose at Riverfront Park and stepped in to safely capture it and remove discarded fishing line that was wrapped tightly around its feet.

๐ŸŒ Join Us Tomorrow! Don't forgetโ€”the McMinnville International Cultural Festival takes over the Milner Recreation Center tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Come out for an incredible day of diverse foods, crafts, music, and dance performances!

The resident shared that FF McGlothen read a story about firefighters to 67 children across three groups and that the entire crew helped create a memorable experience by showcasing the fire truck, demonstrating firefighting equipment, guiding children in battery-powered fire truck rides, and providing goody bags.

Their efforts reflect our value of ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ณ๐˜‚๐—น & ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ดโ€”creating an environment where children and families feel welcomed, engaged, and connected to their community.
Thank you to FF McGlothen and A-Shift for making a difference in the lives of our youngest residents and for representing the City of McMinnville so well!

Today, the City of McMinnville pauses to observe Memorial Day. We join our community and nation in remembering and honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Our freedom and way of life endure because of their courage and selflessness. We extend our deepest gratitude to the families of our country's heroes, whose sacrifices are never forgotten.

As a reminder, City offices are closed today. We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful day of remembrance.
