K9 Valk wanted to remind folks that staying safe in this summer heat means 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹😓and 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱💧. If you have to be out working, make sure you take water breaks and give yourself a chance to rest in the shade so you don't overheat.

Heat illnesses are medical conditions resulting from the body’s inability to cope with a particular heat load, such as:
• heat stroke,
• heat exhaustion,
• rhabdomyolysis,
• heat syncope, and
• heat cramps.

What could seem like a mild symptom, such as heat cramps, could actually be a symptom of heat stroke and quickly turn into a serious, life-threatening emergency. 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙞𝙛 𝙨𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙨 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚.

🫗Keeping your body hydrated with small drinks of water frequently throughout the day is one of the most effective ways to prevent heat illness. so drink up!

🥵𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫🥵

With tomorrow's Heat Advisory continuing to forecast temperatures of 92° to 98° starting tomorrow morning, it's a good time for a reminder that animals, children, and individuals with respiratory or mobility issues should not be left in vehicles, even with the A/C going or windows rolled down.

𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝟐 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜.

❌ Never leave children, animals, or medically fragile individuals alone in a hot car.
🌡 Check the car seat temperature before placing your child in the seat.
🕶 Use sunshades or tint your windows to help reduce heat.
📋 Create a system to remind you to check your child's seat before locking the vehicle - every time.
🔒 Keep your vehicle locked - cars are not playgrounds.

☀️ 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 🥶

The heat headed our way will make rivers, lakes, and even some pools look more inviting, but early summer water temperatures often remain much colder than the air.

Cold water can quickly affect your body, making it harder to swim, stay afloat, or reach safety.

✅ 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻, 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:
🦺 🛟Wear a life jacket when boating, paddling, or fishing. Personal flotation devices should always be a part of your water adventure.
🐢 Enter the water slowly and be prepared for cold-water shock.
🏊🏊🏽‍♀️🏊🏿 Never swim alone - always use the buddy system.
🕵️‍♀️ Keep a close eye on children near any water.
👩‍💻 Check local conditions, currents, and water temperatures before heading out.
🚫🍹 Avoid alcohol when swimming or boating.

Remember: Warm weather doesn't mean warm water. Taking a few extra precautions can help ensure everyone enjoys a safe start to summer.

On June 10, 2026, deputies with Yamhill County Sheriff's Office responded to an active disturbance in the City of Willamina. The involved suspect was known to have an active probation violation warrant for Assault on a Public Safety Officer and was reported to be under the influence of intoxicants.

Deputies made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation and gain the suspect's voluntary compliance. Despite numerous opportunities to surrender peacefully, the suspect refused to cooperate with commands to exit the residence. Due to concerns for the safety of the home's occupants and the surrounding community, and with the homeowner's consent, deputies entered the residence and located the suspect barricaded inside an upstairs bathroom.

Deputies continued efforts to peacefully resolve the incident and provided several additional opportunities for the suspect to surrender. When those efforts proved unsuccessful, K9 Delta was deployed and assisted in the apprehension of the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody, evaluated at Willamette Valley Medical Center, and lodged at the Yamhill County Correctional Facility.

YCSO would like to thank Polk County Sheriff's Office Oregon, Grand Ronde Tribal Police Department, and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Department of Emergency Services, as well as the staff at WVMC, for their assistance and support during this incident.

On June 11, 2026, YCSO deputies responded to a report of trespassing in rural McMinnville. Utilizing a YCSO Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), deputies quickly located the suspects and determined both individuals had multiple outstanding warrants. Deputies also discovered the suspects were in possession of a reported stolen vehicle.

Investigators further believed the suspects were connected to multiple theft investigations throughout Yamhill County and had been involved in a law enforcement pursuit earlier in the week.

Given the suspects' location, deputies rapidly established a coordinated containment operation utilizing YCSO Marine Patrol deputies on the river and patrol deputies on land. K9 Delta and a custody team were deployed to assist with the apprehension.

When deputies contacted the suspects, both individuals fled from Marine Patrol deputies and ran into a nearby brush line in an attempt to evade capture. As the custody team closed in, the suspects continued their efforts to avoid arrest.

K9 Delta was deployed, prompting the male suspect to surrender. He was taken into custody without incident.

The female suspect remained outstanding, and K9 Delta was utilized to conduct a track. After a brief search, K9 Delta located the female suspect, who then surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Both suspects were transported to the Yamhill County Correctional Facility, where they were booked and lodged on their outstanding warrants and additional charges.

YCSO would like to thank Newberg-Dundee Police Department for assistance from their UAS program and the citizens of Yamhill County for their continued support.

These incidents demonstrate the effectiveness of interagency cooperation and the value of the resources made available through community support. If you are interested in learning more about how the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office Foundation supports YCSO, please visit https://ycsofoundation.org/.
