Knowledge Is Empowerment

At Henderson House, our team of advocates are trained, knowledgeable, and completely confidential. We know that fleeing an abusive situation is difficult and to do so safely can require additional resources and expertise. We are here to empower survivors to flee safely, to help them reestablish their lives free of violence, and to provide a place to heal with a community of support.

We believe that knowledge is empowerment, and in that spirit we'll be sharing some important information related to our work through periodic "quizzes" (with answers provided in the comments).

We encourage you to read, reflect, and share!

Big news for survivors in Yamhill County! 💜

We are beyond moved to share that Henderson House was the recipient of a $25,000 gift from the Marilyn Ebert Memorial Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.

This generous support directly fuels our expanded shelter access as well as our advocates’ tireless work to ensure that DV/SA survivors in Yamhill County have access to 24/7 confidential, 1-on-1 support as they flee abuse and break cycles of violence.

A massive thank you to Oregon Community Foundation for your vital partnership in our work and for believing in a safer future for our community.

Why are we wearing denim today? 👖💙

In the late 1990s, the Italian Supreme Court overturned an SA conviction because the survivor wore tight jeans. The court argued that she must have helped her attacker remove them, thereby implying consent. The next day, women in the Italian Parliament arrived at work wearing denim in a fierce display of solidarity.

Today, Henderson House stands with survivors everywhere to say: There is never an excuse for SA. Clothing is not consent.

By wearing your jeans today, you are making a social statement against victim-blaming and the myths that surround SA.

How to support local survivors today:

(1) Wear Denim: Snap a selfie and tag us .

(2) Speak Up: Challenge comments that blame survivors for the harm done to them.

(3) Give: Your donations allow us to provide 24/7 crisis advocacy and emergency shelter for those in Yamhill County.

Finding the courage to leave is only the first step; the longer and often even more difficult challenge is finding the resources to stay safe. At Henderson House, we provide the bridge between crisis and a new life. Offering more than just immediate safety, we provide a lifeline of continuous support.

Monthly donors are the heartbeat of this mission. While one-time gifts meet immediate needs, monthly contributions provide the predictable, sustained funding required to keep our crisis lines open 24/7, stock our shelter with necessities, and ensure that support groups remain available for survivors years after they’ve left the shelter. When you give monthly, you aren’t just helping someone leave; you are helping them heal.

Read one survivor's journey of resilience and the lasting impact of your support:

"It took me several attempts to get myself and my kids into the Henderson House safe house. When we were in shelter we received support and many, much needed services like a mailbox, food, clothing, and funds to relocate. The staff and volunteers are amazing. In June 2026 it will be 3 since my children and I left our abuser. I still use the support groups and sometimes I still call the crisis line when I just need someone to talk to. I feel seen and heard at Henderson House, even my children have continued to benefit from the support. Without Henderson House, there would be so many who couldn’t find help and safety. Thank you!"

Make your monthly gift commitment today, to partner is this lifesaving, life-changing, ongoing work.

Well done!
