Throwback Thursday for ! This 1909 image shows the new and freshly painted Baker Creek Hydroelectric Plant on Powerhouse Road. The facility began generating electricity in early 1910 and used more than 1,500 cords of wood during its first year of operation.

A power outage is affecting customers on the west side of McMinnville. A car hit pole near Baker Creek Rd/Orchard View Rd. Crews are onsite and current estimated time of restoration is 12:30 pm. Approximately 600 customers are impacted. Thank you for your patience as crews work to restore power as soon as possible.

Throwback Thursday! One hundred years ago in 1926, the McMinnville Water & Light Commission prepared a bond issue to construct an impounding dam and a 100-million-gallon reservoir on Haskins Creek. Voters approved the bond issue during a general election held in November, and in early February 1927, the commission applied for a permit to construct the dam. On March 3, local contractor J.C. Compton won the $69,310 construction contract for a combination earth and rock fill dam. Soon after, the commission hired R.W. Jones as engineer on the dam, for $3,000, and in early August accepted the bid of Pierce, Fair and Company for $25,000 in Water & Light bonds, as approved by voters the previous November. A year later, the new Haskins Creek Impounding Dam was complete.

McMinnville Water & Light hasn't been around as long as the , but we're pretty close (just 13 years difference)! So the milestones in MW&L's history are also milestones in McMinnville's history. Over the next several weeks, we'll be looking back at those moments in our shared history while we look forward to McMinnville's 150th birthday celebration on October 17.
McMinnville Water & Light was formed on August 22, 1889, when the McMinnville City Council authorized the construction of a system of water works and electrical light for McMinnville. (Photo shows the first Water and Electric Plant, which was located on the banks of the South Yamhill River at the end of today's Vine Street, southeast of downtown.)
